Mets GM Sandy Alderson had a scary moment today, when he blacked out while speaking with press. Alderson was at a press conference with manager Terry Collins to announce Collins’ two-year contract extension. The press conference had ended, and he was answering additional questions when he collapsed.
According to reporters on the scene, Alderson was in the midst of talking about the Mets offseason plans when he suddenly collapsed. After staying on the ground for around thirty seconds, He sprang back up. Alderson tried to make a joke, and resume the interview, but there were no follow-up questions.
Alderson was deemed ok after being examined by Mets trainers. He blamed a lack of breakfast, coupled with exhaustion. He also said he felt light headed.
Alderson has been the Mets General Manager since the 2011 season. He is 67 years old. He has previously worked for the Athletics and Padres, as well as in MLB’s commissioner’s office under Bud Selig.
