Wide Receiver Wes Welker is back in the NFL. The St. Louis Rams have signed the slot receiver to a new contract.
Should you add Wes Welker to your fantasy team? It is the question fantasy owners around the country are asking. The answer depends on the size and type of league you are playing in.
The answer for most people is no, but he is worth monitoring. Who should give Welker a look? Those playing in leagues that have PPR (point per reception) scoring, three receivers or 12-14 teams.
Last season, Welker struggled to stay fantasy relevant with the Broncos. According to FFToday, he had one game with double digit fantasy points. There is also the injury risk with the amount of games he has missed with concussions.
Welker does enter an offense without a clear number one receiver. Tavon Austin has been the playmaker as of late for the Rams, and it will be interesting to watch how they use the two receivers together. If Welker is able to play right away, he could see targets come his way.
The Rams are on a bye this week and play the Bears in Week 12. If you have an extra roster spot and want to stash him it is okay, but be advised there is a lot to watch out for in terms of Welker’s fantasy outlook the rest of the season.
Unfortunately, fantasy owners will not be able to see how Welker is used in the Rams offense for two weeks. There are likely players on your waiver wire that have better short and long term fantasy value than Welker.
