The Texans have had quarterback problems this season, but they’ve just hit rock bottom.
T.J. Yates is out of the game with a knee injury, after an errant slide during the second quarter against the Colts. For all intents and purposes, it was a non-contact injury. Brian Hoyer is dealing with concussion symptoms, and isn’t even dressed for today’s game.
Yates is the third Texans quarterback to start this year, but the injury looks like he won’t be the last.
Enter Brandon Weeden. Yes, Brandon Weeden.
Weeden signed with Houston a few weeks ago, after the Texans cut Ryan Mallett. Weeden made several starts earlier this year with Dallas, where he lost four consecutive games. He was eventually replaced by Matt Cassel, who was replaced by Kellen Moore last night.
If something happens to Weeden, the next available quarterback would be punter Shane Lechler.
The QB situation looks to be the Texans undoing this season. Even if they overcome the Colts today, it’ll be hard to see Houston doing anything in January with Brandon Weeden at the helm.
