Alabama possesses the best front seven in the nation. They have a number of great defensive linemen led by Jarran Reed and A’Shawn Robinson and have the ability to rotate high-caliber players on the defensive line to keep everyone fresh.
The Crimson Tide also have the best running back in the land in Heisman Trophy winner, Derrick Henry. It is not uncommon for Henry to get between 30-40 carries a game.
If you are a proponent of old school football that relies on defense and a strong run game to win games, Alabama is your pick. Head coach Nick Saban has also coached in a number of championship games.
Clemson offers more variety on offense. DeShaun Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He can extend plays with his legs, throw the ball down field and offers mobility to run with the ball when there is an opening.
The Tiger’s defense is not as good as Alabama but it is still solid. Football Outsiders ranks Alabama as the top defense in the country but Clemson is just a few spots lower at fourth.
Clemson is the pick for fans skeptical of Alabama’s passing game and also envision Watson posing a real problem in the pocket for the Alabama defense.
