Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic are set to face off today in the Australian Open Men’s Final, in a meeting of two of the best in tennis. This is the fourth time and second consecutive year these two have met in the final of this particular major, with Djokovic winning in four sets in 2015.
When it came down to it, Djokovic was in control from the start. He rolled over Murray, 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to capture his 11th career major and record sixth Australian Open title.
Djokovic is starting 2016 in fine form, knocking off Roger Federer in impressive fashion in the semifinal. Andy Murray struggled in five sets against Milos Raonic to reach the final, which doesn’t bode well against an opponent Murray has struggled with in the past.
These men have met 27 times in their professional career, and only six times has Murray gotten the edge. The most recent occasion was in the finals of the 2015 Canadian Masters, but Djokovic has won both meetings since then. Before that it was eight straight for Joker, dating back to the 2013 Wimbledon final.
