At this point in the season, Leicester were expected to fall out of the title race. They’ve stumbled a bit in 2016 but surprisingly stayed on top, leading Manchester City and Arsenal by three points in the table. But with trips to Etihad and Emirates on tap for February, it’s even more important the Foxes avoid getting swept today by Liverpool.
For a team that has shocked so many in the league, Leicester disappointed in their Boxing Day appearance at Anfield. They were outshot and outpossessed, with Christian Benteke’s second-half goal the only margin.
Both teams should be well-rested for today’s match. Jurgen Klopp rested 10 first-team players for FA Cup action over the weekend, leaving keeper Simon Mignolet as theonly regular. Leicester have been eliminated from any cup opportunities, giving them 10 days rest to focus on the title chase.
