Liverpool vs. Manchester United: Time, Channel & Lineup

(Getty)

For the first time in their storied history, Manchester United and Liverpool will meet in Europa League play. It’s a rare sight to see England’s elite in this competition, but United’s recent form over the Merseysiders should inspire confidence heading into Wednesday’s first leg.

United have won four straight fixtures over over Liverpool, and today Louis Van Gaal can become the first United manager to defeat Liverpool five consecutive times. United have fared well against England’s elite this season, but mostly encountered good fortune against Klopp’s men. With a lineup that should include both Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino, United won’t simply stroll into Europa League’s final eight.

With the Premier League season coming to a close, this could be both team’s best chance of qualifying for Champions League next year. The current table shows Liverpool three points behind United, who trail Manchester City by three points for the final Champions League position.
