The Arkansas Derby, the last major prep for next month’s Kentucky Derby, will run on Saturday at Oaklawn Park Race Track in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Expected to lead the 12-horse field is Cupid. Coming off a victory in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes, the Bob Baffert-trained horse is looking to grab some final momentum before The Run for the Roses on May 7. Things worked out pretty well for last year’s Arkansas Derby winner, American Pharoah, another Baffert horse who went on to win the first Triple Crown in 37 years.
Cupid’s biggest challenges will come from Whitmore, who finished second in the Rebel Stakes, Suddenbreakingnews and Gettysburg.
