Josh Doctson was likely on his way to winning the Fred Biletnikoff Award as college football’s best receiver before an arm injury slowed, then eventually stopped, his final year at TCU.
Docton injured his wrist while leading the country in receiving yardage. He was slowed over the next two games, then was shut down completely for the last three. He still finished with 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns, garnering All-America honors.
The injury has healed and now Doctson is now a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, getting selected by the Washington Redskins 22nd overall.
Doctson has good speed (4.5 seconds in the 40) and size (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) needed for the physical play of the NFL game. But really he’s just a productive receiver. And that’s what we’re looking for as fantasy football managers.
And Doctson landed in a pretty good situation. Kirk Cousins threw for 4,166 yards and 29 touchdowns as Washington’s starter. Doctson is going to have success there.
As for next year’s fantasy drafts, Doctson should be one of the top rookie receiver you select (ahead of Laquon Treadwell, Will Fuller and Corey Coleman). Talent- and production-wise, and now with favorable situation, it looks like a great spot. For next year and the future.
