Atletico Madrid await Wednesday’s winner, as Real Madrid and Manchester City play for the chance at a Champions League title. For Madrid, it would be their 14th appearance in the final, while it’s City’s farthest Champions League journey in club history.
After a scoreless draw in the first leg, injuries will play a huge factor in the result at the Bernabeu. Yaya Toure returned to training for City but David Silva did not, while Casemiro joins Benzema on the sidelines for Madrid.
Above all, there is Ronaldo. And Ronaldo is back.
CR7 leads all Champions League scorers with 16 goals in the competition, and has missed his club’s previous three fixtures dealing with a thigh injury. Now Madrid get Ronaldo back and return home, where they have not conceded a goal in five Champions League matches.
Madrid dominated late in the first leg and nearly scored, but it was City who controlled early. Manuel Pellegrini has promised his team will bring a different attitude than in the first leg, as City try to make club history in Pellegrini’s curtain call.
