Chile are one game away from returning to the Copa America final, but they’ll need to defeat a familiar opponent to punch their ticket to MetLife Stadium.
Not much separates them and Colombia, who defeated Peru in a quarterfinal penalty shootout to advance to the semifinal. These teams have met 15 times in the past two decades, and the record between them is 5-5-5. They met in November for World Cup qualifying, and finished with a 1-1 draw.
Chile are a slight favorite for Wednesday night’s matchup, but will be without arguably their best player for the semifinal. Arturo Vidal will serve a one-match ban for yellow cards, leaving a gaping hole in Chile’s midfield. Physical will tremendous ball skills, Vidal is one of the best players in the tournament, not just on Chile.
