USMNT need to rebound from their opening night loss to Colombia, and it has to happen Tuesday night against Costa Rica. There is still a good chance USA advances out of Group A, but they will need a good performance against Los Ticos and a better one against Paraguay.
Costa Rica bested USA in a friendly in October, but USA hold an historical edge in competitive play. They’ve gone unbeaten in 15 straight on US soil over Costa Rica, a record that dates back to 1989. The home-field advantage is much-needed for USA, whose fans were butchered by Colombian supporters in the opening match.
Costa Rica played Paraguay to a scoreless draw in their opener, but a late mistake could cost them in Chicago. Top defender Kendall Watson picked up a red card in extra time, forcing him out of the team’s next contest. USA came out of their opener unscathed, and shouldn’t have any drastic changes in their lineup.
