Where is Shane Lowry From?

The name Shane Lowry isn’t exactly a widely-known one in the United States.

Sure, many golf fans in the U.S. have heard of him, but don’t know too much about the 41st-ranked player in the official world rankings.

Why Lowry isn’t as familiar as other players is because he doesn’t play on the PGA Tour very often. Most of his time is spent on the European Tour.

So where is Lowry from?

Lowry, 29, was born in Clara, County Offaly, Ireland.

Clara is located in central Ireland along the Brosna River. Mainly an industrial town, Clara is big into sports, with soccer and Gaelic football clubs, as well as a golf course.

Lowry honed his skills at the Esker Hills Golf Club, where he began his amateur career. He won the 2007 Irish Amateur Close Champion, then took the 2009 Irish Open while still an amateur.

He attended University College Dublin and eventually turned pro in 2009.

Lowry entered the final round of the 2016 U.S. Open with a 4-shot lead over Dustin Johnson and Andrew Landry.

If he can hold on to win, Shane Lowry’s name will undoubtedly be known worldwide.
