WWE Money in the Bank 2016 Preview: Matches & Predictions

That golden briefcase hanging high in the sky is back one again. On June 19, WWE will present is 2016 installment of the Money in the Bank PPV.

This year’s huge MITB ladder match features a who’s who of WWE’s Superstar roster: Sami Zayn, Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens and Alberto Del Rio. Whoever walks away from the chaos of that marquee match certainly deserves to brag about their briefcase and keep the main champion on edge. We’ll all have to see who will hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after this event when Roman Reigns contends with his his biggest rival, Seth Rollins. And a dream match we thought we’d never see will finally go down – WWE’s poster boy John Cena will do battle with the “Phenomenal” AJ Styles.

Here’s our big predictions for every scheduled matchup for Money in the Bank 2016.

The Lucha Dragons (Kalisto and Sin Cara) vs. The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley

Predictions & Winners: Looks like we’ve got a random, meaningless RAW/SmackDown tag team match here. We’ll just offer up a random, meaningless match winner prediction then: The Lucha Dragons win. On a side note, we’re kind of worried about the future of Kalisto. His reign as US Champion was a whole bunch of nothing, plus it doesn’t look like him & Sin Cara are getting next to those tag titles anytime soon. Hey Kalisto, Lucha Underground sounds like a better fit for you in our opinion. Same goes for you, Sin Cara Dos.

The Golden Truth (Goldust and R-Truth) vs. Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango)

Predictions & Winners: This feud is totally a guilty pleasure for us. Goldust and R-Truth are a riot together. We’ve sat through each and every backstage skit for both these men. It went from Goldie saying no to Truth every time right into Truth being standoffish to Goldie about the very thing he asked for. And now that both men’s past partners have deserted them, The Golden Truth finally became the duo we never knew we wanted. Plus, seeing two of WWE’s most model worthy Superstars together oddly works well. Breezango has gotten so many wins over their rivals, so we’re going to go out on a limb here and say that The Golden Truth finally get a win. This feud will continue and we’re actually happy about that.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin

Predictions & Winner: This feud will seemingly never end. It hasn’t resulted in any memorable matches whatsoever and the promos from both men leave a lot to be desired. Corbin’s still getting the midcard spotlight placed on him, so of course we reckon he’s going over here.

Apollo Crews vs. Sheamus

Predictions & Winner: This one has some potential. Crews is so fluid in the ring, but we have yet to learn more about his personality. Sheamus should give him a great challenge that will hopefully wipe that smile off Crews’ face and help him display his tougher self. Sheamus is pissed off at the “New Era” crop of Superstars, which Crews is associated with. This is how we’ve arrived at this matchup. We have a feeling that this feud will go on a little longer, which means our bets are on the bad guy in this contest getting the win. Sheamus will take the W here and prolong his beef with an even more angrier Crews.

Rusev (c) (with Lana) vs. Titus O’Neil (WWE United States Championship)

Predictions & Winner: We’re happy to see that Rusev ripped the US Championship out of Kalisto’s grasp. Rusev looks like he’s back to being rebuilt into the monster he was during his first US title reign. His first challenger is kind of a surprise: the newly reinstated Titus O’Neil. Titus has stood up for the good ol’ USA in opposition to the “Bulgarian Brute.” Both men will now enter a match of the juggernauts for the US Championship. Rusev just got the title and we don’t see him dropping it anytime soon. He’ll beat back Titus’ onslaught of offense here and walk away with the championship still intact. For some reason, our gut tells us Darren Young will work his way into this feud. His association with Bob Backlund will eventually lead to him standing across the ring from his former PTP teammate and Rusev. This feud will continue into the summer.

The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and/or Xavier Woods) (c) vs. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows vs. Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) (WWE Tag Team Championship)

Predictions & Winners: Now here’s one of the matches we’re dying to see. The New Day is breaking records as the current WWE Tag Team Champions, The Club is on a mean streak and Enzo & Cass are still at war with The Vaudevillains. All four of those teams will now settle their beefs in the middle of a Fatal Four Way battle for the titles. Our top picks for the victors of this match are either Enzo & Cass or The Club. We think a happy ending will come from this matchup. After Enzo’s health scare last month, we think WWE’s gonna give Enzo & Cass the titles for the first time. After going through so much since their debut on RAW, it’s about time for them to become the new tag team champions. After their big win, we see them embroiling themselves in a face vs. face feud with The New Day.

Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs. Natalya and Becky Lynch

Predictions & Winners: Charlotte needs to have someone by her side at all times. She once had her Hall of Famer father singing her praises and helping her win matches, but now she’s ditched him for Emma’s old running mate. Dana Brooke is rolling with her now, but she’s caught the ire of Natalya and Becky Lynch. All that back and forth between all four ladies has led us to this tag team encounter. The babyface lads present here need a big win, in our opinion. Plus we see them transitioning their win into a triple threat match with Charlotte for her title at the next PPV. So count on Natalya and Lynch getting the win, which means we’ll see more dissension between Charlotte and Dana.

John Cena vs. AJ Styles

Predictions & Winner: My, oh my. If someone told us these two wrestling greats would be having a marquee match on the WWE stage, we’d have laughed in your face and tell you to lay off the pipe. But, here we are. Styles has tapped into his inner badass, which is something we enjoyed watching him be during his NJPW run. And it’s the perfect time for him to do so since he’s having his first match with John Cena. Cena’s back to full health and Styles is at the top of his game, so you know this could end up being match of the night. AJ’s running mates will come out at some point during this match and distract Cena. This will result in Styles using this moment to catch Cena off guard and add an extra accomplishment to his already long list: AJ Styles defeated John Cena during his 2016 comeback.

Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro vs. Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens vs. Alberto Del Rio (Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match Contract)

Predictions & Winner: We have five awesome Superstars here (we don’t care about Del Rio, to be quite honest) for 2016’s official Money in the Bank Ladder Match. This is our 2nd pick for expected match of the evening. There are two guys here that could benefit the most from grabbing the golden briefcase and a future shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. And those two gentleman are Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens. It’s always fun when a heel has the briefcase, so we think it’d be awesome to see Owens as the new Mr. Money in the Bank. But Ambrose has been a roll lately. He’s gotten big wins over Jericho and he always seems close to getting embroiled in a triple threat feud for the title. We’re going to give it Ambrose here, who we think will cash in his title shot sooner rather than much later.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Predictions & Winner: Roman’s most heated rivalry has kicked up once again. Seth Rollins has returned with a vengeance and he’s eyeing the championship he never lost in the ring. These former stable mates will re-enter into a hate filled beef encounter that almost took place at the 2015 Survivor Series. This match will be great, no doubt. But we all know there’s going to be some type of shenanigans involved. We can’t even fathom what will happen during this match’s closing moments, but the end result will come under some type of controversy. We think there’ll be a definitive winner here. This feud has to go on until SummerSlam, so expect to see Reigns and Rollins heading into a special stipulation rematch at the next PPV.
