After graduating from Mansfield High, the Texas native ended up at Air Force. However, Evans suffered an ACL tear in his first season. Evans decided to transfer to Trinity Valley Community College, where he played the last two seasons. Evans threw for an average of 395.5 yards per game and 38 total touchdowns last year, which caught the eye of Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente.
