Pitching Matchup

The Cubs will hand the ball to Kyle Hendricks, who has been lights out this season. The former eighth-round pick led the league in both ERA (2.13) and ERA+ (188), closing out the season by allowing just 14 earned runs over his last 11 starts.

He was even better at Wrigley, going 9-2 with a 1.32 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 95.1 innings.

The Giants will counter with Jeff Samardzija.

Although he’s no longer quite as dominant as he was with the team he’ll be facing in this one, he was tremendous down the stretch, putting together a 2.86 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 69.1 innings since the beginning of August.

In his lone start against his former team this season, Samardzija lasted just four inning innings, giving up five hits, three walks and three earned runs in an early September start.
