Final Score

Houston Texans 6-0-3-0 — 9
Denver Broncos 0-14-7-6 — 27
Box Score

It was not the reunion Brock Osweiler had hoped for in his return to Denver to play his former team. The Broncos defeated the Texans 27-9 and were in control of the game from start to finish.

Osweiler was 22-of-41 for 131 passing yards. He also had one fumble and was without a touchdown on the evening. The Broncos defense got the revenge they were seeking after Osweiler bolted for Houston this offseason.

It was the running game that was the story for the Broncos. C.J. Anderson had 16 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Devontae Booker also got into the action with 17 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Here’s how the Broncos came away with the victory.

Brock Osweiler Was Greeted With Boos to Start the Game

Osweiler was greeted with boos by the Denver crowd as he ran onto the field for pre-game warmups. The boos continued as the stadium filled and during each Texans possession. Osweiler and the Texans offense struggled during the first few series. Broncos fans were not happy with Osweiler when he bolted for Houston over the offseason. He also declined to take part in any of the Super Bowl celebrations this summer like the team’s visit to the White House.

C.J. Anderson Left the Game With an Injury Then Came Back & Scored on the Same Drive

After making a carry, Anderson came up from a tackle holding his leg. He walked gingerly off the field, and Devontae Booker took over for Anderson briefly. Anderson came back in a few plays later and scored a touchdown on the drive. He ran it in for a seven yard touchdown. The touchdown marked the first of the game. It was also the first touchdown of the primetime Week 7 matchups after the Seahawks-Cardinals Sunday Night Football game ended with only field goals.

Demaryius Thomas Caught a Touchdown to Put the Broncos Up 14-6 Before Halftime

After a scoreless first quarter, the Broncos offense had an explosion of sorts with back-to-back touchdowns in the second quarter. Just minutes after Anderson’s touchdown run, Trevor Siemian connected with Thomas on a four yard touchdown pass. The touchdown extended the lead for the Broncos with little time remaining for the Texans offense to get going before halftime.

Osweiler Fumbled the Ball Early in the Fourth Quarter

It was not Osweiler’s night in his homecoming of sorts. Early in the fourth quarter, Osweiler was attempting to make a pass when the ball slipped out of his hands. It turned out to be a fumble and was recovered by the Broncos. Denver converted the turnover into a field goal to go up 24-9.
