WWE Roadblock: End of the Line: The Results & Highlights You Need to Know

The 1st ever Roadblock event took place earlier in 2016 and it featured every current wrestler in the WWE.

Now that we’re at the close of 2016, the Raw brand has adopted this special event and attached the intimidating tagline “End of the Line” next to it. This installment of Roadblock will feature a major main event between the current Universal and United States Champion. Kevin Owens will contend with Roman Reigns for Owens’ top prize. Owens’ former buddy Chris Jericho will engage in a heated grudge match with Seth Rollins, plus Sasha Banks and Charlotte will rekindle their feud for the Raw Women’s Championship. And this time, it’ll take place under 30-minute Iron Man (Woman?) rules.

Here’s all the results and highlights you need to know that took place at Roadblock: End of the Line.

Big Cass (with Enzo Amore) vs. Rusev (with Lana)

Winner: Rusev via count out…

Highlights: Lana performed her usual intro for the “True American Hero” Rusev. And of course, Enzo Amore blurted out his always entertaining catchphrases and shit talk. Big Cass even threw in a few Christmas themed insults. Once the match finally began, Rusev and Cass started roughing each other up super early. Rusev caught an early big boot to the face, which forced him outside of the ring. Back inside the ring, Cass continued beating the hell out of his foe. Rusev used a boot of his own to finally weaken Cass, but his Superkick attempt failed. Cass countered it, slammed him to the mat and laid in his Empire Elbow. Cass looked to follow that big move up, but Rusev escaped the ring and began running through the audience. Cass followed him outside, but Rusev threw a few strikes at him that distracted him. Lana and Rusev then combined their efforts to drop Enzo, which led to Cass checking on him. He was unable to re-enter the ring before the ref’s count, but Rusev entered the ring just in time to get the win.

The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and/or Xavier Woods) (c) vs. Cesaro and Sheamus (WWE Raw Tag Team Championship)

Winners: The new WWE Raw Tag Team Champions, Cesaro and Sheamus!

Highlights: The New Day (while donning their new gear full of holiday cheer) celebrated their longest reigning tag team championship reign and berated their opponents. Kofi and Cesaro started things off quickly when Cesaro stunned Kofi with a running dropkick and elbow strikes. Kofi tried several times to get in some shots of his own, but Cesaro’s quickness caught him off guard every time. Sheamus laid in a quick strike to Kofi while standing on the ring apron, which led to him tagging in. Afterwards, Sheamus and Cesaro tagged in and out while laying in unique duo maneuvers on the smaller Kofi. Sheamus kept Kofi locked into a submission hold for a while, but Kofi managed to escape. He was unable to tag in Big E though since Sheamus knocked him off the ring apron.

Cesaro re-entered the match and catapulted Kofi into the air that ended with him catching another elbow strike. Later on, Cesaro rammed his shoulder straight into the corner post after Kofi dodged him. Sheamus looked to damage Kofi, but Kofi countered his strikes. Kofi finally got the hot tag to Big E, who proceeded to go crazy with comeback offense on Sheamus. Big E’s spirited offense got stopped for a little bit, but he came right back with more after he dropped Sheamus with a running Powerbomb. Sheamus eventually got to tag in Cesaro, who helped him lay in one of his signature moves. This big moment got followed up by a Big Swing attempt that failed, which then led to The New Day all working together to put down Cesaro. Cesaro almost eat the final pin via a Big Ending. Chaos ensued as Sheamus laid in a Brogue Kick on Big E on the outside and Cesaro locked Kofi in a Sharpshooter. Xavier Woods saved Kofi after distracting the ref, but Cesaro tortured Kofi even more by planting him with his Neutralizer.

Sheamus got tagged in, which lead Cesaro hopping right onto Big E on the outside. Sheamus booted Woods in the face, who ran in to save Kofi from getting destroyed. A bunch more near-fall’s ensued, but the finish finally came when Cesaro sacrificed himself by catching a Trouble in Paradise. Sheamus ran in just in time to quickly roll up Kofi for the shocking win. After the match, Cesaro hugged it out with the former champs while Sheamus held both titles in the air. Cesaro then ran into the crowd to celebrate with his personal section of fans.

Sami Zayn vs. Braun Strowman (Sami Zayn Must Last 10 Minutes)

Winner: Zayn Survived!

Highlights: The timer started up and Zayn’s biggest test began. He used his quickness to dodge Strowman repeatedly on several occasions and lay in some quick moves. When Strowman finally got ahold of Zayn, he threw him clear across the ring and splashed him right in the corner. Outside the ring, Strowman clubbed Zayn and then proceeded to force him back into the ring for more punishment. Zayn managed to make Strowman trip over the top rope to the outside. He looked to follow that up by hopping right onto his larger foe on the outside, but Strowman caught him and laid him face first onto the ring apron. Strowman returned Zayn to the inside of the ring and continued his barrage of offense. The ref stepped in to check on Zayn, but Zayn looked like he was willing to continue (while still holding on for dear life).

Strowman pinned Zayn various times, but he broke up his own pin just to continue punishing Zayn. Zayn struggled to get to his feet, but Strowman was there to clothesline him and do even more to put him back down. Suddenly, Mick Foley entered the arena with a white towel. He looked like he was ready to throw it in on Zayn’s behalf, but he decided not to. Strowman threw Zayn outside right in front of Foley’s feet, then he met Foley outside to trash talk him. Zayn forced himself to his feet and pleaded with Foley to not throw the towel in. Zayn took the towel for him and threw it into the crowd. Strowman looked to slam Zayn into the post with a running splash, but Zayn dodged hi mat the last minute.

Zayn’s chances of survival rose even more when Strowman ran right into the timekeeper’s section and smashed through the barrier. Strowman ran himself into another corner post inside the ring and then got surprised by a top rope body splash by Zayn. Zayn pulled off one final move on Strowman with a Helluva Kick. The bell ran to signify the time limit’s end, which signified that Zayn had simply survived.

Rich Swann (c) vs. T.J. Perkins vs. The Brian Kendrick (Triple Threat Match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship)

Winner: And still the WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Rich Swann!

Highlights: “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” Austin Aries graced us with his presence on commentary for this title bout. After the proper handshakes were doled out, each man exchanged some quick moves with each other. Swann ended up kicking Kendrick and causing him to exit the ring, which left Swann and Perkins to go blow for blow. Kendrick soon recovered and grabbed Swann’s foot to bring him outside. Perkins and Kendrick began going at it, but Swann came back in to land an Enzuguri on Kendrick. Swann then pulled of a number of big moves on both men, including a double Hurricanrana. Swann looked to stay in control, but Kendrick used a big boot to knock Swann down.

The action kept moving at a fast pace, but it came to a screeching halt when Kendrick locked Swann into his Bully Choke. Perkins broke the submission hold by pulling Kendrick away and locking him in his Kneebar hold. Swann soon got back to his feet and laid in a Rolling Thunder -like splash to take out Perkins. Later on, Kendrick found himself shoved to the outside after a failed Sliced Bread No. 2. Swann then got locked into the Kneebar for several moments, but Perkins broke the hold after several grueling moments. Kendrick ran in to keep fighting, but he ate a double Superkick that pushed him back to the outside. Swann then KO’d Perkins with his swift side kick to retain his title.

After the match, Neville shocked the crowd by returning. He beat down the champ and Perkins while the crowd looked on in amazement. Neville absolutely pummeled both men over and over with a particularly nasty scowl on his face.

Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho

Winner: Seth Rollins!

Highlights: Once this grudge match kicked off, Rollins quickly embarrassed Jericho. But right after that, Y2J did the very same thing to Rollins. Both men then got more serious and traded lockup holds that soon ended with Rollins getting Jericho down with strikes and chops. Y2J recovered from all those moves and finally got Rollins down with a Missile Dropkick. Y2J got control of Rollins afterwards by continuously striking him in the ring corner. Rollins soon managed to cut off Y2J with a clothesline and then followed that up kneeing him in the face on the outside. Once back in the ring, Y2J regained control by using the ref to hide from Rollins. Y2J used this moment to strike Rollins’ eye and weaken his vision.

Later on, Rollins looked to get the upper hand once again but Jericho cut him off to the outside with his Springboard Dropkick. Rollins ran into the ring just in time to prevent a count-out loss, but Y2J immediately began punishing him as soon as he ran back in. Y2J then remained in control as he pulled out his most familiar moves on Rollins. Jericho then used repeated slaps to embarrass Rollins, but Rollins then responded with a few slaps of his own. Jericho’s submission attempt on Rollins failed as Rollins beat him back with an Enzuguri. Rollins then pushed Jericho groin first into the ring corner for good measure.

Rollins finally came back to life and entered a 2nd gear with his comeback offense. Rollins almost got locked into a Walls of Jericho, but Rollins escaped. He instead got dropped with an Enzuguri, though. After getting shoved over the rope while attempting his Lionsault, Jericho got taken down with a suicide dive by Rollins. Back in the ring, Rollins’s failed springboard maneuver resulted in him getting locked into the Walls of Jericho. Rollins fought hard enough to grab the bottom rope and escape Y2J’s grasp. Later on, Rollins clipped Y2J with another Enzuguri. But Jericho held on and finally hit his Lionsault on Rollins right after. Rollins soon delivered a Falcon Arrow suplex to Jericho, but it wasn’t enough to put away his opponent. After this series of moves, both men cut each other off with a wealth of cool counters. But Rollins found himself stuck in the Walls of Jericho a 2nd time.

Rollins escaped, caved in Jericho’s face with Superkicks and then came off the top rope with a beautiful Frog Splash. Suddenly, Kevin Owens ran in to aid his former best friend. It almost worked, but Y2J failed to properly capitalize on Owens’ assistance. Jericho eventually fell victim to Rollins’ Pedigree.

Sasha Banks (c) vs. Charlotte Flair (30–Minute Iron Man Match for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship)

Winner: The new WWE Raw Women’s Championship, Charlotte Flair!

Highlights: Both women competitors squared off while the crowd chanted on in excitement. Charlotte’s cockiness was showcased early as she used her father’s signature taunt to clown Banks. They soon locked up in an intense meeting that ended with Charlotte shoving Banks away. They locked up again, but Charlotte got the better of it. Charlotte kept Banks locked in her headlock hold for a while, but Banks soon did the same to her. Both women exchanged a number of impressive counters over and over right into a stalemate. Charlotte found herself in the corner afterwards and got chopped down by Banks a bunch of times. Soon, Charlotte found herself locked into the Banks Statement for a few seconds before she escaped. Once Charlotte got back into the ring, she and Banks exchanged quick pins. Banks laid in a nice dropkick and even taunted Charlotte while she laid on the mat. This angered Charlotte and led to her laying in a big boot on Banks, but Banks quickly got back to her feet and locked in a submission hold on her. Charlotte fought hard to get back to her feet and then dropped Banks on her back by running half way across the ring.

Outside the ring, Charlotte almost slammed Banks into the corner ring post. Banks saved herself, landed on the ring apron and countered Charlotte by using her flying knee strike to take her down. Once both women got back into the ring, Banks locked in an extremely punishing submission on Charlotte for a good amount of time. Charlotte finally escaped though and managed to run to the outside. Banks met her with a sick Suicide Dive, though. Banks looked to do more damage to Charlotte while on the ring apron, but Charlotte kicked her and made her trip right into the steel ring steps. Charlotte then got in control of the match as she beat down Banks’ weakened body. Charlotte did even more damage to her smaller opponent with a submission holds and her neckbreaker combo. Charlotte’s offense focused more on Banks’ weakened neck all the while.

Banks finally made her comeback after shoving Charlotte into the ring corner and laying in several strikes. Banks’s comeback didn’t last long though as Charlotte shoved her away and put her down with her Natural Selection neckbreaker. Both women continued to assault each other and even found themselves locked into a battle on the top rope. It ended with Charlotte getting the 1st winning pin after laying out Banks with a top rope Natural Selection. Charlotte remained in control once the match restarted. But she soon got cut off guard with a surprise pin from Banks that tied up the score. Charlotte’s anger pushed her to lay in a nice big boot on Banks soon after. Charlotte looked to land a Moonsault, but her attempt failed and caused her get locked into a Banks Statement. Charlotte eventually tapped out, which made the score go into Banks’ favor.

Once the match restarted once again, Charlotte managed to use a jumping boot to lay right into Banks’ now injured leg. This then led to Charlotte targeting Banks’ leg with a flurry of offense. After punishing Banks’ leg for a lengthy time, Charlotte finally locked in the Figure Four Leglock for even longer. Banks fought hard to grab for the bottom rope, but Charlotte kept her submission hold feverishly locked on. Once Charlotte turned her hold into the Figure Eight Leglock version, she finally made Banks tap out and tied up the score. Overtime kicked in, which led to Charlotte fighting hard to lock her submission hold back in. Banks shoved her away, but she soon got suplexed hard halfway across the ring. Banks almost won the match out of nowhere with a quick pin, but Charlotte kicked out quickly. Charlotte soon found herself locked in the Banks Statement, but she somehow escaped and locked in her signature hold once again. Banks began bleeding profusely out of her nose and eventually tapped out to Charlotte.

Kevin Owens (c) vs. Roman Reigns (WWE Universal Championship)

Winner: And still the WWE Universal Champion, Kevin Owens!

Highlights: As soon as the bell rung, Owens crawled to the outside while Reigns yelled at him to get their match started. On the 2nd time that Owens escaped to the outside, Reigns met him and began landing a few punches on him. They both got back into the ring, but it led to the outside once more and led to both men striking each other repeatedly. Once the match got back into the ring, Owens and Reigns finally locked up. Owens’ tight headlock attempt was thwarted when Reigns took Owens out with a backdrop. Owens rolled back to the outside, but Reigns was there once more to cut him off with more offense. Reigns began setting up an announce table for something big, but Owens put a stop to whatever he was doing. Owens rolled Reigns into the ring and landed his Running Senton on him right in the center. Owens looked to be in control, but Reigns got back to his feet and beat down Owens even more.

This caused Owens to retreat (again…) to the timekeeper’s area. Reigns followed suit and grabbed hold of Owens. Owens soon got the better of him by throwing him right into the steel ring steps. Owens followed that up hitting his Senton Splash right off the top of the ring steps. Owens finally threw Reigns back into the ring on his own and got in control. Owens even managed to lock in a tight submission hold on his now grounded foe. When Reigns fought hard to escape, Owens turned him right into a neckbreaker and flipping leg drop. Owens then locked his submission hold back in on Reigns. Reigns escaped once more and even dodged Owens’ Senton Splash. Reigns then entered right into his comeback offense (which the crowd wasn’t exactly thrilled with).

Reigns looked to land a Samoan Slam, but Owens rolled out of it and dropped him with a German Suplex. Owens looked to land his Cannonball Splash, but Reigns cut him off with a big boot and finally landed his Samoan Slam. Owens held on, but later on he got taken down with a well-placed Superman Punch. Owens survived it, though. Both men got locked onto the top rope, but Reigns slipped off and came running back with another Superman Punch. Reigns went for another big move off the top rope, but Owens countered him with a top rope Fisherman Suplex. Reigns survived the following pin attempt, though. Reigns got back to his feet with more comeback offense and landed his sliding dropkick to Owens on the outside. On his 2nd attempt, Owens dodged it and caught Reigns with a Superkick. Owens landed another one and then Frog Splashed Reigns twice into the announce table.

Reins crawled back into the ring and immediately got caught with another Frog Splash. Owens looked to land his finisher, but Reigns countered it and dropped Owens with his own Sitdown Powerbomb. Reigns signaled for his Spear, but Owens booted him in the face and finally landed his Pop Up Powerbomb. But it was still not enough to take Reigns out. Owens got desperate and grabbed his title to land something big on Reigns, but Reigns speared him out of nowhere. Suddenly, Jericho ran out. He looked like he was set to take down Reigns, but he targeted Owens with his Code Breaker instead. The match was then thrown out due to disqualification…

After the match, Rollins and Reigns took revenge on their rivals. Reigns speared the hell out of Owens while Rollins cut Y2J off with another Pedigree. Jericho then ate a Shield Powerbomb through an announce table. Owens then received the same treatment through the announce table set up near the stage area.
