Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have been terrible to start 2017, but history is on their side Saturday night against Tottenham. Liverpool have been solid against the top six teams this season, and Mauricio Pochettino has never beaten Liverpool as Spurs manager.
Liverpool last won a Premier League fixture on New Year’s Eve against Manchester City, and have since gone winless in five games. Spurs have won four games over that span, and at nine points they are the closest team in England to catching Chelsea at the top of the table.
These teams score goals when they meet, and it doesn’t hurt that both will be missing key defenders. Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen are not new to Tottenham’s injury sheet, but Liverpool could be without both Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klaven. Missing both central defenders would be detrimental to a Liverpool defense that has conceded six goals in their previous three league matches.
