WWE Money in the Bank 2017: The Results & Highlights You Need to Know


Welcome to the one WWE PPV where ladders and title shot briefcases are the sole focus.

SmackDown Live will be the brand who’s Superstars will be vying to claim that lauded WWE Championship opportunity. Six male competitors and five female rivals will be fighting to climb the ladder to victory in their respective MITB matches. As for the WWE Championship and SmackDown Live Women’s Championship, Jinder Mahal will face Randy Orton in a rematch and Naomi will take on the returning Lana. This special WWE event has a solid lineup – two MITB matches, a WWE Championship bout, a Women’s Championship scuffle, a Tag Team Championship duel and a tag team Kickoff show encounter. This show is set to be a great one.

The Hype Bros (Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder) vs. The Colóns (Primo Colón and Epico Colón)

Winners: The Hype Bros!

Highlights: Ryder and Epico went right at each other while some crowd appreciation tactics from Ryder. Ryder got the better of him with a nice dropkick and a tag team maneuver with Mojo. Epico eventually fought off Mojo, tagged in Primo and went to work. A slap from Primo did nothing but wake up Mojo, who proceeded to freak Primo out with his football taunting. When Ryder got back into the ring, he landed a nice Baseball Slide dropkick on both opponents on the outside. The match got back into the ring with Ryder getting distracted and kicked by Epico, which finally gave the advantage to The Colóns.

Ever since that moment, Epico worked on Ryder’s back and leg with a Single Leg Crab. Ryder soon made his escape, but Epico continued to target Ryder’s leg. Primo made sure to continue the damage done to Ryder by Epico when he got tagged in. After dealing with double offense from The Colóns, Ryder finally took Primo down with a neckbreaker that led into him tagging in Mojo. Mojo’s hype helped him lay in most of his best moves on Primo. Ryder aided Mojo by landing his Broski Boot on Epico. Soon after, a Hype Ryder managed to finish off Primo for the win.


Naomi (c) vs. Lana (WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship)

Winner: And still the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Naomi!

Highlights: Lana tried to get fancy once the bell rang, but Naomi ran right at Lana with raging punched and kicks. Lana shoved her away for a few seconds, but Naomi got back into attack mode once she got ahold of Lana again. Naomi ended up trying to land a side kick to Lana on the ring apron, but Lana caught her leg and draped it right over the top rope. Lana then used this opportunity to begin taking it to the champion. Lana focused much of her offense on Naomi’s now injured leg. Lana remained in control for a good while until Naomi laid into her with various kicks and a nasty Rear View. Lana managed to fight back by hitting her unique spinebuster on Naomi, but Naomi managed to survive it. Shockingly, Carmella’s music hit. The crowd looked on as Carmella signaled that she was ready to cash in her title shot. Carmella decided not cash in just yet, though. Naomi ended up causing lana to tap out with her Slay-o-mission. After the match, Naomi stared down Carmella as she kept her briefcase and left the ringside area.


Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya vs. Tamina vs. Carmella (with James Ellsworth) (Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Match Contract)

Winner: 2017’s Ms. Money in the Bank, Carmella!

Highlights: Every woman expect Tamina tried to retrieve a ladder once the bell officially rang. Tamina thwarted all their efforts, but then Charlotte entered the ring to send her outside via big boot. Natalya, Tamina, Charlotte all laid into each other with big moves soon after. Carmella tried to get involved, but she was taken out quickly with a Tamina Samoan Drop. Tamina eventually gained control and catapulted Natalya’s face right into a ladder. She then smashed ladder into Becky’s face, but the same was done to her once Charlotte got back to her feet. Natalya ended up forcing Charlotte to the outside while Becky threw a ladder right onto Tamina. Becky and Natalya got into a tug of war over a ladder for a bit, but they decided to use the ladder to shove Tamina down to the mat. Becky ended up shoving Natalya down too and knocking Carmella off the ring apron. Once she turned back around though, Becky got launched onto a ladder via a body slam from Natalya.

Natalya picked up a ladder and looked to make history, but Charlotte cut her off with an Electric Chair Drop. Charlotte looked to be gaining ground as she ascended the ladder, but Carmella was able to stop her halfway. Charlotte soon recovered and began battling with Carmella atop the ladder. Tamina re-entered the ring to shove the ladder down and force both women to fall face first onto the top rope. Tamina looked to pick up another ladder, but Natalya cut her off with a ladder strike. While Natalya was looking to pick up a ladder of her own, Becky attacked from behind. Natalya countered her with a Sharpshooter, but Carmella broke up her submission attempt after a few seconds. Charlotte hopped back into the ring and got into a scuffle with both ladies. The action started to crescendo even more as Becky pulled off her corner kick to Natalya on a ladder. Carmella got back in and tried to make another attempt at getting the briefcase, but Charlotte cleaned her clock with a big boot. Charlotte did the same to Becky and looked to climb the ladder again, but Tamina headbutted her right off.

Charlotte got back to her feet and speared Tamina to the outside. Madness soon ensued when Charlotte took out Tamina and Natalya with a top rope splash. Back inside the ring, Becky powerbombed Carmella right off the ladder. Becky made her way to the top of the ladder, but James Ellsworth was there to stop her. James pulled off all the hard work when he climbed the ladder and threw it right into Carmella’s waiting hands. The pissed off crowd and confused referees on the outside debated while Carmella celebrated with her briefcase.

The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) (c) vs. The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and/or Xavier Woods)
(WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship)

Winners: The New Day by countout…

Highlights: Before the bell rang, The New Day delivered some jokes to the crowd that revolved around some mature prison behaviors. Kofi got the action underway against Jimmy and got the better of him for a bit. But Jimmy quickly got the tag to Jey, who proceeded to beat on Kofi for a bit. Jey paid for his transgressions though when Big E caught him with a big splash right onto the ring apron. Jey ate some more offense from Kofi and Big E before Jimmy helped his brother by pulling down the top rope and causing Kofi to trip to the outside. Jimmy followed that up with a nasty clothesline. Both Usos began working like a well-oiled machine as they began assaulting Kofi. They even suplexed him right into the corner ring post for good measure. Kofi was put on the receiving end of several big moves via The Usos soon after. Kofi took plenty of abuse before his landed his double foot stomp on Jey.

Once Big E got the hot tag, he went right to work on Jimmy with some big time offense. Big E even managed to run full speed ahead and spear Jimmy through the middle rope. Kofi got tagged in and looked to take out Jey, but Jey cut his leg down and allowed Jimmy to get in and lock in his submission. Jimmy went to splash Big E on the outside, but Big E caught him and responded with a big Belly to Belly Suplex. Inside the ring, Kofi and Jey exchanged several moves with each other. Kofi even locked in a tight Dragon Sleeper, but Jey fought out of it. Jey ended up superkicking Kofi and going for a big splash, but Big E caught him for a nasty Big Ending. But Jimmy ran in the ring just in time to break up the pin. At one point, Xavier Woods hopped onto the apron to play some trombone tunes and distract The Usos. This was followed up by even more chaotic action that saw Kofi launch himself off the top rope onto both twins on the outside. Kofi and Big E finally landed their tag team Midnight Hour finisher, but their following pin was disrupted. Both twins then decided to exit the match and get counted out instead of losing the titles fair and square.


Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) vs. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor)

Winner: Breezango!

Highlights: Breeze and Viktor got right into a vicious brawl before their respective partners ran in to help. Breeze grew distracted and eventually got shoved right into a high knee from Viktor. Viktor and Konnor then focused their brutal offense onto Breeze for several grueling moments. Breeze got beat down long enough before he tagged in Fandango to aid him. Fandango went to town on Konnor before he ended up on the receiving end of a Spinebuster. Konnor and Viktor looked to land a big tag team finisher, but Breeze pushed Konnor off the top rope. Fandango then rolled up Viktor for the winning pinfall.


Kevin Owens vs. AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin vs. Sami Zayn vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE Championship Match Contract)

Winner: 2017’s Mr. Money in the Bank, Baron Corbin!

Highlights: During Nakamura’s entrance, Corbin decided to run out early and knock him down. Once Corbin made it to the ring, every man chose to bash each other with punches and ladder strikes. Owens found himself on the receiving end of a plancha by Zayn on the outside. Corbin got his hands on a ladder and laid waste to both AJ and Ziggler. But eventually, Ziggler got back up and landed a nasty Superkick on Corbin. Zayn and Owens continued to brawl until AJ dumped Zayn to the outside. AJ and Ziggler began battling for control over a ladder. Ziggler decided to climb up the ladder laid onto the ring apron and cut off AJ’s springboard maneuver attempt. Ziggler then ended up in Corbin’s arms for a Deep Six Nine onto the floor. Zayn followed that up with his Moonsault off the ring ropes onto Corbin. Owens soon woke up in time to begin tearing into AJ and Zayn with continued ladder strikes. Owens also gave Corbin and Ziggler a taste of that very same ladder. But AJ countered another ladder strike from Owens by tripping him up and crashing his face right into the ladder.

AJ and Owens exchanged a number of punches before Zayn came into continue fighting with Owens. Zayn managed to take hold of Owens on the top rope and threw him back first onto a ladder resting in the ring. Zayn tried grabbing another ladder to put up in the center of the ring, but Ziggler ran in to stop him with a vicious throw right into a ladder set up in the corner. Zayn also ate a dropkick when he looked to climb the ladder moments after. Ziggler almost got all the way up the ladder, but Zayn grabbed hold of him and planted him with a Blue Thunder Bomb. Corbin ran in to make sure Zayn didn’t get the briefcase, but AJ then followed him and beat him down with side kicks and a running elbow strike. AJ, Ziggler and Corbin all ended up duking it out on a ladder. AJ got knocked off first, then Ziggler jumped sky high to bring Corbin back down with a Zig Zag. Afterwards, AJ, Zayn and Ziggler made their way up the ladder. Zayn shocked the crowd by landing a Sunset Powerbomb on Ziggler from atop the ladder.

Owens pulled Zayn to the outside to powerbomb him on the ring apron, but Zayn managed to escape it. Both men began fighting on the ring apron, but Zayn got the better of Owens after landing a Half Nelson Suplex on Owens right atop the ring apron. Inside the ring, Zayn tried to will himself up the ladder while the crowd cheered him on. Zayn made it halfway up before getting dropped with a Phenomenal Forearm from AJ. Once Corbin woke back up, he targeted AJ by taking him to the outside for some more punishment. AJ almost got the better of Corbin before he got chokeslammed hard right onto a ladder set up near the announce table. Madness ensued for a little while loner until Nakamura made his grand return to the match. Ziggler ended up eating two Kinshasa’s while Zayn also got one for good measure. Nakamura fed one to Owens too since he wouldn’t let go of Nakamura’s ladder on the outside. Back inside the ring, AJ and Nakamura stared each other down as the crowd looked on. Both men decided to push the ladder aside and bash each other ferociously. Nakamura got the better of AJ with a sleeper hold and Reverse Exploder at first, but AJ got back into the fight with a nasty forearm strike. But after all was said and done, Corbin was the one to ascend the ladder and grab the briefcase.

Jinder Mahal (c) (with Sunil Singh and Samir Singh) vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship)

Winner: And still the WWE Champion, Jinder Mahal!

Highlights: Before the match began, a proud group of wrestling legends were honored in front of a very appreciative crowd. Once the big match introductions concluded, Orton assaulted Mahal with a bevy of strikes. Mahal was forced to make a hasty escape when he almost ate a quick RKO. Mahal went over his game plan on the outside with his affiliates before returning to the ring for more Orton punishment. Orton did everything to beat down Mahal inside and outside the ring, but his leg ended up getting targeted by Mahal. Mahal made sure to beat on his now injured leg on the outside by flinging Orton right into the steel ring steps. Mahal threw Orton back into the ring and continued to tear up Orton’s weakened leg. Orton made a crazy comeback on the outside by dropping Mahal back first onto the crowd barrier right in front of the legends. Mahal seemed to be down for the count until he got back up in time to slam Orton’s injured leg right onto a nearby announce table. Mahal then went right back into punishing Orton’s leg inside the ring.

Orton finally managed to maintain some offense over Mahal after landing a Fall Away Slam. But when Orton exited the ring to capitalize on his big move, Mahal went right back to injuring his already torn up leg. Once both men got back into the ring, Mahal countered another RKO attempt and went right back to beating down Orton. Mahal added insult to injury by using the Figure Four Leglock on Orton while Ric Flair looked on from the front row. Orton reversed the hold after being locked in for an excruciatingly long time, but Mahal quickly escaped and went right back to working on Orton’s limb. When both men ended up on the top rope, Orton brought Mahal back down to the mat hard with a Bob Orton Superplex. Orton and Mahal both got back to their feet to exchange strikes while the crowd reacted to each blow. Orton got the better of their exchange and began going right into his signature comeback routine.

Orton weakened Mahal long enough to finally land his RKO, but Mahal’s boys laid his foot atop the rope to save him. For this illegal act, the referee ejected them from ringside. Mahal’s members jaw jacked with the legends at ringside and even put their hands on them. A pissed off Orton fought for their honor by destroying both men at ringside. Orton handed out RKO’s to both men (one of them even got caught with one through a table). But when Orton ran back into the ring to take down Mahal, Mahal surprised him with a match ending Khallas.
