The young stars of Germany have cruised into the Confederations Cup final, where they’ll meet an experienced and hungry Chile squad. Chile may have ousted Euro champions Portugal in the previous round, but they’re still slight underdogs for Sunday in St. Petersburg.
Here are the latest odds from Bovada:
Chile vs. Germany Odds
Spread: Pick, Chile (+120) and Germany (-145)
Moneyline: Chile +200, Germany +135, Draw +240
Total: Over 2.5 (+105), Under 2.5 (-130)
Prediction:
Chile are still hungry because although they’ve won two South American titles, this game means a lot to them. Unlike Joachim Low and Germany, Chile brought their best squad to Russia. They want to not only win an international title for a third straight summer, but beat the World Cup champions and build momentum into next year.
With the age of Chile, however, I have to mention stamina. Chile doesn’t have a ton of depth, and they went up and down with Portugal for two full hours. Germany isn’t going to sit back anytime soon, so Chile better have their legs under them from the first minute.
Coincidentally, when these teams first met in the group stage, it was a shaky mistake early that led to Chile’s only goal. Alexis Sanchez pounced on a mistake to put Chile ahead early, but it failed to hold in a 1-1 draw.
Leon Goretzka had two goals against Mexico to add to Germany’s impressive scoring tally, as the team cruised to a 4-1 victory. But the impressive goal came from Ajax winger Amin Younes, who wasn’t in the game that long before making an impact. Germany are bursting with youth talent, and regardless of the result Sunday, Joachim Low’s experiment has paid off.
Do the Germans want to win this game? Of course they do. But Chile is older, and they know that their time is now. Beat the champions this summer, become the champions next summer. I like Chile to hold on for a late goal and a 1-0 victory, but things could fall apart if Germany scores fast.
Prediction: 1-0 Chile
Best Bet: Under 2.5 (-130)
