Sebastian Munoz: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

PGA Tour rookie Sebastian Munoz began the final round of this year’s Greenbrier Classic with a two-stroke lead over Robert Streb.

Munoz, 24, has led after every round of the Classic, held in White Sulphur Springs, WV. If he is able to hold on and win, he would become the first wire-to-wire winner at The Greenbrier Classic.

“The support of the crowd is great,” said Munoz. “I feel like they generally want me to win. Like I just feel the support, and that’s also nice. That’s just how it felt back home.”

1. Munoz Played For The University of North Texas

Munoz attended and played golf at the University of North Texas. He won two tournaments his senior year, including the Conference USA Championship.


2. Munoz Earned His PGA Tour Card For The 2017 Season

In February of 2016, playing on a sponsor invitation, Munoz won the Club Columbia Championship on the Web.com Tour. The victory came in his hometown of Bogota and earned him a Web.com Tour card. He finish 22nd on the regular season Web.com Tour money list, which earned him a PGA Tour card for the 2017 season.

Munoz also won at the 2015 Abierto de Buracamanga, Abierto de Club Campestre Medellin for his only other professional win.


3. Munoz Has Many Amateur Wins

Munoz’s first amateur win came in 2010 when he won the Copa Joaquin y Tomas Samper Brush, Canadian International Junior Challenge. He was also victorious at the 2012 Abierto de Golf Ciudad de Ibague, Abierto de Golf, and 2013’s torneo Aficionado Segunda Semana.

He also won the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate tournament in 2014.

Munoz turned professional in 2015 and played on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica’s Developmental Series where he won two tournaments. His finish on the Series earned him exempt status on the first half of the 2016 PGA Tour Latinoamerica season.


4. Munoz Best Pro Finish Was at The Texas Open

Munoz who has 11 starts on the PGA Tour, has yet to finish in the top 25. His best finish came at the Texas Open earlier this year when he finished T27. He has $120,000 in career earnings on the PGA Tour.

Munoz was tied for the lead with Charl Schwartzel and Chez Reavie after two rounds at this year’s FedEx St. Jude Classic. He fell off in the final two rounds and finished 60th.

Munoz, who ranks 198 on the FexExCup leaderboard, finished T35 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and T50 at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Munoz made an impressive eagle from 153-yards on the 17th hole during the final round of the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open:



5. Munoz Is The First Colombian to Win on The Web.com Tour

Munoz’s win at the Club Colombia Championship on the Web.com Tour was the first win by a Colombian golfer on the Web.com Tour.

Munoz is looking to join Camilo Villegas as the only Colombian-born players to win on the PGA Tour. Munoz spoke to Villegas before the final round of The Greenbrier Classic.

Munoz talked about his preparation heading into the final round.

“I am going to try and do the same thing,” said Munoz. “I’ve had my phone off since Thursday. We’re going to keep it that way. Just watch the movie, relax in the morning, have some breakfast, and get ready. Watch some tennis.”
