Preview
These teams have already met twice this season, with the road team prevailing in each contest. The Bucks opened their season with a 108-100 win in Boston, while the Celtics got revenge with a 96-89 triumph about a week later.
Of course, the Bucks have made a significant change since those games, adding Eric Bledsoe via trade in early November. Many questioned the move for Milwaukee at the time, but it has been a rousing success. Not only have the Bucks gone 8-3 since that move, but the new starting lineup of Bledsoe, Tony Snell, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo and John Henson boasts an offensive rating (points per 100 possessions) of 118.5 and a defensive rating of 96.5. That net rating of 22.0 is the third best in the NBA–behind only Golden State and Houston’s starting lineups–since Bledsoe arrived in Milwaukee.
This matchup, though, represents a massive litmus test for the surging Bucks. The Celtics have won 20 of their last 22 games, the Kyrie Irving-Al Horford pick-and-roll has proven nearly unstoppable, the young guys–led by rookie Jayson Tatum–have been fantastic, and the defense is the best in the league with just 98.9 points per 100 possessions allowed. If the Bucks can go into Boston and grab a W, it will go a very long way in cementing them as a legitimate contender in the East.
Boston is favored by 5.5 points, but this should easily be one of the best games on a busy Monday night.
