Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints (7-1) are fresh off the biggest victory of their season, a 45-35 win against the previously undefeated Los Angeles Rams in the Superdome last week.
Brees takes his MVP candidacy on the road to Paul Brown Stadium to take on Andy Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals (5-3) as Week 10 action continues on Sunday.
The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Fox in select areas (coverage map here). Preview
It was a turbulent week for the Saints. First, the incredible 10-point home win last Sunday against the Rams. Then, there was news this week the organization had agreed with free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant on a one-year contract.
Then, unexpectedly on Friday, Dez injured his Achilles on the final play of practice, and was later helped off the field by multiple members of the training staff. It was soon after revealed it was a torn Achilles, which is a huge blow to the former Pro Bowl wide receiver’s career. With the loss of Cameron Meredith, the Saints remain slightly thin when it comes to pass catchers — luckily Alvin Kamara (three touchdowns last week) and Mark Ingram help.
Despite not having first-round pick Marcus Davenport (toe), New Orleans’ defense was able to slow down Los Angeles’ offense enough. The Rams stormed back in the second half, but the Saints’ offense is arguably a huge help that helps improve their defense.
The Bengals are fresh off their bye week, but will be without two key players, one on offense and one on defense. A.J. Green (toe; week to week) and cornerback Darqueze Dennard (shoulder) have already been ruled out, meaning Cincinnati will likely have to rely on Joe Mixon and the running game more to not only put up points, but keep Brees and company off the field.
The Saints defense held Todd Gurley to just 73 rushing yards last week. New Orleans allows only 3.4 yards per carry, and possess the league’s No. 1 defense against the run.
