Getty Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen is due for a bounce-back performance.
Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings (4-3-1) will look to keep their weak grip on first place in the NFC North when they host Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions (3-4) in a divisional matchup as Week 9 action continues on Sunday afternoon.
The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Fox in select areas (coverage map here). Cousins and the Vikings fell to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football in Week 8. Despite Adam Thielen’s eighth straight 100-yard receiving game to start the season — an NFL record — a key fumble in the redzone ultimately shifted momentum in the game, allowing the Saints to take advantage in the key NFC victory.
Minnesota may be down a wide receiver, as Stefon Diggs (ribs) is questionable for Sunday. After promoting Chad Beebe, Diggs’ status is likely more in doubt than it was initially. Running back Dalvin Cook, once again, is also questionable with a hamstring injury.
Detroit took a hard stance on the direction of the organization this week. Veteran slot wide receiver Golden Tate — a yards-after-the-catch monster — was traded to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third-round draft pick. The trade signals a retool for the Lions, one that will predominantly surrounded by building around younger skill-position players Kerryon Johnson and Kenny Golladay, as well the next men up who replace the 30-year old Tate’s offensive snaps.
Detroit could be without Darius Slay (knee) on Sunday. Slay, who primarily operates as a shadow cornerback on the outside, would likely have drawn Diggs; he would also avoid Thielen, who lines up primarily in the slot.
Head coach Matt Patricia and company are also optimistic that defensive end Ezekiel Ansah — out since Week 1 with a shoulder injury — will play.
