Getty Bucs running back Ronald Jones is not expected to play against the Eagles.
The Kansas City Chiefs have added some depth to their offensive backfield, signing running back Ronald Jones, according to Matt Verderame of FanSided. The deal is for one year and $5 million, per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

Jones was a second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2018 NFL Draft. In 55 games played in his NFL career, he has accumulated 2,174 yards on 488 rushing attempts — 4.5 yards per carry — and 18 rushing touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference. He’s also caught 75 passes for 571 yards and another score.
Chiefs Kingdom might remember Jones from being on Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl roster when the Buccaneers beat Kansas City in the 2020 Super Bowl. In that game, he had 12 rushes for 61 yards.
Standing at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds, Jones runs with a lot of power, which is evident in the above tweet. However, the weakest facet of his game is his pass-blocking. Last season, he earned a 12.4 pass-blocking grade from PFF. Granted — he was only on the field for 12 total pass-blocking snaps. But the low grade combined with the fact that the Buccaneers seldom used him in those situations speaks volumes about his struggles in that category.
KC’s RB Room Taking Form
Jones joins a running back room in Kansas City that includes Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Derrick Gore, and Brenden Knox. The two other running backs that were on the roster last season, Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon, remain free agents.
Given Jones’ inability to pass block effectively, he will likely be an early-down back for the Chiefs, splitting snaps with Edwards-Helaire and Gore on first and second down.
