Latest Trail Blazers News
Scoot Henderson : Posts solid numbers in backcourt
Henderson chipped in 14 points (4-11 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, four assists and one steal over 26 minutes during Monday's 132-108 loss to the Mavericks. Henderson was a valuable reservist amid mediocre results from Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe. Although Simons and Sharpe are locked into first-unit roles, the former first-round pick is proving his worth as a backup. The youngster skipped college and went pro right out of high school, and his coronation as Damian Lillard's heir apparent was a bit premature. He's a key piece of Portland's future plans, but he's only on the cusp of fantasy consideration as he develops with the second unit.
Deandre Ayton : Flirts with double-double in loss
Ayton racked up 16 points (8-11 FG), nine rebounds and two steals across 26 minutes during Monday's 132-108 loss to Dallas. Although Ayton failed to exceed the double-double threshold, he's averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds since returning from a two-game absence. Ayton has missed nine games due to a finger injury and an illness, but the Trail Blazers managed a 4-5 record without his contribution. The team will need consistent nights from Ayton as they struggle to stay relevant in the Western Conference.
Deni Avdija : Leads with 19 points from bench
Avdija recorded 19 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 5-8 FT), six rebounds, three assists and one block over 23 minutes during Monday's 132-108 loss to Dallas. Mediocre evenings from Shaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant forced Avdija to carry a heavier load, and the team rode the hot hand as they tried to keep pace with the Mavericks. Aside from a six-point hiccup against the Jazz, Avdija has enjoyed a productive December, averaging 15.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists over nine games.
Dalano Banton : Available to play Monday
Banton (hip) is available for Monday's game against the Mavericks, Sean Highkin of Rip City Radio 620 Portland reports. Banton will return after a two-game absence, and he should add another scoring threat off the bench for the Blazers. Even though he doesn't play enough to be a reliable fantasy option in most formats, Banton averages 9.8 points while logging just 16.7 minutes per contest.
Robert Williams : Won’t play Monday against Mavs
Williams (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game against Dallas, Sean Highkin of Rip City Radio 620 Portland reports. Williams played in the Blazers' last three games after missing the prior seven contests due to a concussion. The ankle injury is a new one, and it will force him to observe Monday's game in street clothes. Williams' next opportunity to play will be against the Jazz on Thursday. Williams' absence opens the door for Donovan Clingan, Jabari Walker and Deni Avdija to see more minutes off the bench behind Jerami Grant and Deandre Ayton.
Robert Williams : Questionable for Monday
Williams is questionable for Monday's game against the Mavericks with a left ankle sprain. This is a new issue for Williams, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Trail Blazers take a cautious approach here. The center has played an average of just 11.0 minutes in his previous two appearances.
Dalano Banton : Questionable for Monday
Banton (hip) is questionable for Monday's game against the Mavericks. Banton could miss a third consecutive game due to a left hip contusion. Scoot Henderson would likely see some more minutes if Banton cannot play.
Anfernee Simons : Stuffs stat sheet Saturday
Simons closed with 18 points (7-22 FG, 3-11 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four rebounds, six assists and five steals in 33 minutes during Saturday's 114-94 loss to the Spurs. Simons didn't have his best shooting performance, but he still salvaged his fantasy line by recording a season-high mark in steals. Simons also snapped a streak of three games with at least 20 points, but he's reached the 18-point mark five times in eight December contests, so he's been finding ways to produce. Simons is averaging nearly 18 points per game this season, and he's been one of the Blazers' most consistent scoring weapons despite the team's overall struggles.
