Jets Involved in Blockbuster Trade Talks for Pro Bowler: Report

The New York Jets are looking to make a massive splash ahead of the 2022 NFL trade deadline.

According to NFL Insider Peter King, the Jets “are interested” in making a trade for Denver Broncos EDGE Bradley Chubb.

Jets Would Be Going All in With Bradley Chubb-Broncos Trade

A “well-plugged-in” general manager told King over the weekend that the Jets along with the Miami Dolphins “are interested” in making a deal with the Broncos.

King added in that they would be so interested that they would even be willing to “consider dealing a first-rounder” in a potential trade for Chubb.

King said that any trade would have to include a contract extension with Chubb for “beyond this year.”

The 26-year-old pass rusher is in the last year of his rookie contract and is set to be an unrestricted free agent next spring.

In his five years in the league (including this season) Chubb has earned a Pro Bowl nomination and has delivered some juicy stats:

  • 26 sacks
  • Six forced fumbles
  • 58 quarterback hits
  • 33 tackles for loss

This would be the first time under the leadership of Joe Douglas that he has ever pulled the trigger on a deal of this magnitude to bring talent of this caliber in versus sending it away.

Beyond the talent, it would also be historic for Douglas, who values his draft picks as much as he does, to surrender quality ones in this fashion midseason.

With the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, November 1, this deal could come down to the wire.

Jets Trench Warfare

Chubb being available isn’t surprising with him being in the last year of his deal and the overall interest in pass rushers.

However, the Jets being interested is certainly curious.

They have a host of pass rushers already on their team so to go out and acquire another one at a premium rate would be surprising.

Ahead of the 2022 NFL trade deadline, it seems like a lot of fans are clamoring for an addition in the trenches, but not on defense but rather on offense.

With the uncertainty regarding the health status of both George Fant and Max Mitchell, the Jets could seemingly use a brand-new offensive tackle.

That would be a move that could help them in the present which would help protect Zach Wilson. Depending on which player you acquire that could also help your future at the offensive tackle position as well.

Now it’s easier said than done to go trade for an offensive lineman.

Really good ones are rare and when teams find them they aren’t normally in a rush to trade them away.

So that would likely cost some significant draft capital to go secure one and likely a serious chunk of change contractually speaking.

Regardless of which direction the Jets go it sure seems like they are ready to go all in for the first time in a long time with everything that has transpired so far this season.

At 5-3, everything is still in front of the Jets with another nine games still on the schedule.
