Case Keenum and the Denver Broncos (6-6) have fought their way back from 3-6 to reemerge as an AFC wild card contender. They head west to take on the San Francisco 49ers (2-10) at Levi’s Stadium as Week 14 action continues on Sunday afternoon.
The game is scheduled to start at 4:05 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS in select areas (coverage map here). The Broncos, unfortunately, are dealing with injury issues that may put a halt on any type of December surge for a playoff spot.
Emmanuel Sanders was placed on injured reserve this week after sustaining a torn Achilles, which jeopardizes the remainder of his career — Victor Cruz, a similar player, sustained the same type of injury and was never the same. Chris Harris Jr. sustained a fractured fibula last week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Broncos head coach Vance Joseph is aware his team is now undermanned, but will continue to take a positive approach.
“Any time you get an injury in this league, it’s tough. But it’s next man up, and I’ve said it before, and I know it’s cliche. I’m a product of somebody getting a chance when somebody gets injured. It could be a great start for somebody’s career, one of these young receivers who we trust.
“They’ve been working a long time, Court (Courtland Sutton), DaeSean (Hamilton), Tim Patrick, all of those guys. What a great opportunity for those guys, depending on what’s at stake here.”
The 49ers will be without wide receiver Pierre Garcon, who has been ruled out with a knee injury.
