Lions vs Cowboys Preview

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is set to make his return against the Lions after missing the last five games with a fractured thumb. With the Dallas signal-caller back in the lineup, the team’s offense should open up quite a bit more considering Prescott’s ability to run the ball.

While Prescott’s backup Cooper Rush performed admirably in his absence, the limitations of Dallas’s offense without its starting QB were evident in the team’s 26-17 Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Rush tossed three interceptions, and Dallas went 4-10 on 3rd down.

“Sky’s the limit,” Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb told ESPN about the Dallas offense with Prescott back in the lineup. “The offense is very good and everyone knows this. When we get him back, we’re going to show everybody.”

One player the Lions will have to account for is Cowboys running back Tony Pollard, who had a 57-yard touchdown run against the Rams on October 9, just weeks after catching a 46-yard TD reception against the Cincinnati Bengals.

On the other side, the Lions have lost three in a row after getting their first win against the Washington Commanders on September 18. Detroit is coming off a particularly ugly 26-0 loss to the New England Patriots last week. Heading into the game against New England, Detroit was averaging 35 points a game, so the lack of offensive output was shocking, particularly considering the Lions hadn’t lost by more than four points at all this season.

“I knew where we were at a year ago, I know where we’re at now and I know where we’re gonna be. I know this: We should have more wins than we have right now. I believe that. Everything’s about finding a way to win this first one, we’ve got to get this Dallas game, and then we work from there,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said.

Detroit is averaging 151.4 rushing yards per game, which is the eighth-most in the NFL, and it currently has the league’s second-best passing attack, averaging over 411 yards per contest. They will be facing a stingy Dallas defense that is third in the league in points allowed (16.3). On defense, the Lions are dead last in the league in points allowed (34.0), so Prescott and company could have a field day on their home field.

With a win in this game, the Cowboys would start 5-2 in back-to-back years for the first time since the 1994-95 seasons.
