Olympic Men’s Big Air Preview

Olympic men’s snowboarder shift from slopestyle to big air action on Sunday in Beijing.

Marcus Kleveland of Norway comes in as the favorite. He won gold in the event at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, for the second-consecutive year in January.

Slopestyle gold medal winner Max Parrot of Canada will compete for a shot at two golds the same Winter Games. China’s Su Yiming, who won silver, and bronze medalist Mark McMorris of Canada will also compete.

Parrot and McMorris notably have put aside their controversy on the judging for slopestyle. McMorris got vocal about the judging and said he performed “the run of the day” in the event.

“He actually came to me earlier today and he apologized for his non-sportsmanship,” Parrot said according to the Associated Press. “I told him no worries.”

For Parrot, winning that gold medal held a little extra value since he beat cancer a little over two years earlier in July 2019. He lived with Hodgkin’s lymphoma before overcoming it.

“They were really hard times and, at times, I felt like I was a lion in a cage because I wasn’t able to do what I love the most, which is snowboarding,” Parrot said according to CNN’s Jack Bantock.
“That was the first time in my life that I had to put my snowboard in the closet. Snowboarding is all I know, so it was really hard for me.”

Team USA’s Chris Corning could also make a run in the event.
