1. MyFitnessPal
Developed by MyFitnessPal LLC, this app is one of the popular calorie counting apps in the App Store. MyFitnessPal app is linked to the MyFitnessPal website, so users can take advantage of community message boards, and other calorie tracking devices like Fitbit. It’s user friendly and easy to use. When you first sign up it asks users to enter in basic information like name, date of birth, weight, height, etc. If you’re looking to lose weight, you will need to put in how much you weigh, weight goal, and how many pounds per week you want to lose. It also asks how many times per week you exercise, and for how many minutes. Once the registration process is over, the app opens a summary page that will show the calories that have been consumed (carb, protein, fat), and the number of calories left for the day in graph form. Food entries can be done by entreating text or by scanning the barcode. You can also add multiple types of exercise including cardiovascular and strength training.

2. MyWod – All-in-One WOD Log for CrossFit
If you recently joined Crossfit and are looking for an iOS app that will suggest and track your workouts, MyWod all-in-one Crossfit app will be the best fit for you. MyWod comes with 4 timers, a list of common wods, and a link that will send you to Crossfit’s website.

3. Azumio Instant Heart Rate
Whether you want to track your heart rate for health or exercise, but don’t feel like spending the money on a heart rate monitor, the Azumio Instant Heart Rate app, will be your best solution. Before you get started, you will need to enter your age and gender so the app can calculate your heart rate zones. Place your finger over the camera on your smartphone, and it will detect your pulse within ten seconds.

4. RunKeeper
Once you download RunKeeper on your Android device, you’ll be able to train like a pro, even if you’re just starting out. RunKeeper has a built-in GPS so it can track your route, your pace and speed. It will estimate how many calories you burned during your workout. If you register for a free account on RunKeeper.com you can sync all your activities and routes along with being able to show activities to other RunKeeper users. You can share progress and publish activities to Facebook and Twitter to let your friends know how well you’re doing. RunKeeper can also be used for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, mountain biking and swimming.

iSmoothRun will effectively track and log all of the running, hiking, walking, cycling and any other fitness activities you do. iSmoothRun has a built-in GPS and accelerometer that will track your run, and your strides, even if you’re in an area where you can lose GPS signal. It also keeps track of distance, measures your time, pace, and the amount of calories you burned, and how many steps you walk. If you’re stopped at an extremely long light the app will pause for you.

6. Fitocracy
If your goal is to start working out, lose weight, or run a marathon, Fitocracy will help motivate you to reach that goal. Fitocracy gives you access to some of the world’s best fitness coaches, nutrition experts and experts in other backgrounds. You can track your activities and keep an eye on your progress. Users can gain points and jump to the next level on the Android, iPhone, and web apps as they continue to exercise. Fitocracy recently signed a partnership with Arnold Schwarzenegger to give its users a new workout routine.

7. Cardio Trainer
Cardio Trainer is a popular free fitness app in the Android market. Once you enter in your weight, height, and other basic information, you can begin your workout. Cardio Trainer uses your phone’s GPS to track your routes, and it acts like a pedometer to record your progress. The Cardio Trainer can also be used for walking, biking, rollerblading and other activities. It has a built-in music player so you can get access to your music playlists when you exercise. The app also provides a calorie tracker.

Did you know every person needs to walk 10,000 steps per day? Do you know how many steps you’re walking? The Runtastic Pedometer app will keep track of every step you take and will let you know if you reached the recommended daily steps. If you’re serious about running or jogging, MapMyRun lets you track all of your workouts and will help motivate you to get in shape. Getting started with MapMyRun is easy: All you need to do is sign up for a free account, and you on your way. You will have plenty of options to plan and track workouts and nutrition. The Home Screen allows you to see recent activity, workouts you’ve completed and food you logged into the system. If you click on the “Routes” tab it takes you to MapMyRun section, where you can create new runs or see existing routes by other MapMyRun users. The app lets you search by workout distance, running, biking, dog walking, hiking, and more. MapMyRun is a great tool to use if you’re looking for something to map your workouts.

10. Livestrong.com MyPlate Calorie Tracker
Livestrong’s MyPlate Calorie Tracker will help you watch what you eat and lose weight. You will need to set up a profile on their website, and include basic information like how much you weigh, your height, activity level, and what your weight goal is. Based on the information you enter in, the program will give you the daily amount of calories to help meet your weight goal. Just like MyFitnessPal, you can easily add foods into the food diary. When you exercise you can track your activity and will figure out how many calories you have left for the day. The app also comes with a variety of exercise and levels and offers calories counter for every exercise. Track your progress so you can see where you’re at with your goal.
