Nokia tweeted this message earlier this morning confirming they will be hosting a launch event. Scheduled for October 22nd, this supports the tweet that appeared last week with the save-the-date announcement with a desert theme.
The event is set in Abu Dhabi after it was believed that the company would host an event at the end of this week following their corporate parent Microsoft’s new Surface Tablet presentation.
While the smartphone maker has acknowledged that they will have a product launch on that set date, they have not divulged what exactly they would release. The rumor is that a six-inch Lumia 1520 “phablet” is on the way along with a separate Windows RT tablet. However, the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet known as “Sirius” is actually the upcoming gadget. By choosing an exotic locale to announce a new product instead of the traditional New York or San Francisco launch, Nokia needs to make an impact in order to sway Apple and Android customers to buy their new wares.
