Google has revealed the HP Chromebook 11, a sleek low-budget Chrome OS laptop. Here are five fast facts you need to know.
1. The HP Chromebook 11 Is Available Today For $279
The laptop is available for purchase through Google Play, Amazon and Best Buy starting today. Google wanted to bring some of the features found on the Chromebook Pixel down to a more affordable price. The Verge claims that a 4G LTE version is planned but that pricing and availability have yet to be revealed.
2. Features Include 6 Hours Worth of Battery Life
The budget PC includes this extended battery life but the charging process for it is interesting. Since it requires a charge through a micro-USB, you may need to have the charger with you at all times.
3. The Shell is Plastic But Has A Large Amount of Memory Space
Similar to the old versions of the Macbook, the Chromebook is encased in a plastic shell but infused with a magnesium rigidity offering some level of durability. It contains 2GB of memory plus 16 GB of flash storage.
4. The Screen Won’t Have Touch Capabilities
The resolution is sharp but it won’t have any touch abilities since that may have been the reason to keep the cost low. Laptops typically don’t require this function but Business Insider points out this feature was found on the alleged inspiration for the new device. The PC also has 11.6 IPS and 300 nits of brightness providing an excellent resolution.
5. The Chrome OS Is Still Browser-Based
Compared to Android which is more focused on apps, the operating system for the computer is meant for browsing. The system looks and feels the same way like the versions found on Windows or Mac. The PC provides a slew of free offers from Google’s various stores including two year’s free of 100GB in Google Drive well as a 60-day free trial to Google Play Music All Access.
