UFC Fight Night 24 Attendance, Gate and Bonuses

Fighter awards from UFC Fight Night 24

Saturday’s Ultimate Fight Night event at the Key Arena may have marked the first time the UFC came to Seattle, but it doesn’t look as if it will be the last.

The event shattered the attendance and gate records for a Fight Night event, as 14,212 people packed the venue, producing a gate of $1,182,850. The previous attendance high of just over 10,000 fans was established at Fight Night 18, with the largest gate ($753,429) coming at Fight Night 13.

While the organization brought in a hefty sum from their Seattle debut, they also handed out $55,000 bonus checks to four fighters from the impressive event.

Welterweight Johny Hendricks earned Knockout of the Night honors for his first-round walloping of TJ Waldburger. “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung avenged his earlier controversial loss to Leonard Garcia in historic fashion, collecting Submission of the Night honors for executing the first Twister in the Octagon.

The Fight of the Night award went to bantamweights Michael McDonald and Edwin Figueroa. Though McDonald took home a unanimous decision victory, the two went back-and-forth, with 20-year-old McDonald threatening with numerous submissions and Figueroa finding a way to survive and come back harder each time.

With such a tremendous turn out and appreciative crowd, there is a very good chance the UFC will make a return trip to the Pacific Northwest in the future.
