Mir, Cormier meet at Strikeforce’s October event
A heavyweight title fight between Strikeforce champion Daniel Cormier and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is currently in the works for an upcoming event.
USA Today Sports reported news of the match up this week.
The bout is expected to take place at Strikeforce’s October event, which will broadcast live on Showtime.
Furthermore, this will mark the final heavyweight fight in Strikeforce, as both fighters will move on to the UFC after the contest.
Prior to the decision to take his talents to the Strikeforce cage, Mir met UFC champion Junior dos Santos earlier this summer in a heavyweight title fight at UFC 146. The former champ was defeated via second round technical knockout.
Meanwhile, Cormier cruised through the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix all the way to the finals, where he met Josh Barnett. Cormier earned the heavyweight belt with a unanimous decision win over the longtime veteran.
