Thomas Davis isn’t about to let something as trivial as a broken arm keep him from playing in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos.
The Carolina Panthers veteran linebacker fractured his forearm two weeks ago during the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals. He left that game in the second quarter, underwent surgery early the next morning and was practicing exactly a week later.
He’s officially listed as probable for the Super Bowl:
Broncos safeties TJ Ward (ankle) and Darian Stewart (knee), Panthers LB Thomas Davis (arm) and DE Jared Allen all listed as probable (foot).
It’s an unbelievable turnaround, but not exactly a surprising one when you consider this is the guy who has come back from three ACL tears.
He explained what he’ll be wearing on his arm come Sunday:
Right now we’re coming up with a couple of different things we’re trying out. It’s not going to be a cast, it’s going to be more like a hard brace. Some new technology. It’s gonna be something that’s gonna protect it from all kinds of bumps and bangs. It should be pretty good.
Davis’ presence will be huge for the Panthers’ defense.
In 16 games this season, he tallied 105 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks, four interceptions, seven pass deflections and four forced fumbles. He makes plays all over the field, he’s a positive in both the running and passing game and he knows how to set the tone. Just ask David Johnson:
Davis’ effectiveness will be an important early storyline to watch in Super Bowl 50, but knowing who we’re dealing with here, a mere fractured forearm certainly won’t be enough to stop the 32-year-old from going full speed on all three downs.
