OK, the lineup for this year’s Primavera Festival is outrageous: A$AP Rocky, AraabMUZIK, Atlas Sound, Beirut, Björk, Black Lips, Danny Brown, Death Cab For Cutie, Death Grips, Dirty Beaches, Girls, Grimes, Hype Williams, Japandroids, Justice, Liturgy, Mazzy Star, Melvins, Napalm Death, Neon Indian, OFF!, Real Estate, Refused, SBTRKT, Sharon Van Etten, Spiritualized, The Cure, The Drums, The Rapture, The War On Drugs, The xx, Trash Talk, Washed Out, Wavves, Wilco, Yo La Tengo and about a hundred other bands.
This Week: The Big Pink bring more anthemic pop; Headcage is not an ironic name for Matthew Dear’s newest EP; NYC’s Expensive Looks; Howler’s dangerously catchy power pop; Kathleen Edwards’ fourth album gets a Bon Iver boost.
The Drums have a new album, Portamento, hitting in September and here’s the first single. While their post-Joy Division/post-Smiths sound is always catchy and fun, I’m beginning to think lyrics may not be their strong suit.
We’ve waxed rhapsodic about The Drums on Heavy before, but the new video for “Let’s Go Surfing” just dropped and it’s basically precious treasure. Enjoy!
The Drums are a band started by singer Jonathan Pierce and guitarist Jacob Graham, both originating from Florida, whose backgrounds include numerous remarkable stops such as a ‘religious househood that banned pop music.’
