August 3rd – 5th in Grant Park, Chicago: Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Black Sabbath, Jack White headline a very rock n roll weekned with Florence & The Machine, Bassnectar, The Shins, Justice, Passion Pit, The Weeknd, Santigold, Miike Snow, Alabama Shakes, Tame Impala, Neon Indian, Die Antwoord, M83 and more.
Atlanta’s bedroom phenomenon Ernest Greene, aka Washed Out, performed a few tracks from 2011′s Within and Without at the KEXP studios.
OK, the lineup for this year’s Primavera Festival is outrageous: A$AP Rocky, AraabMUZIK, Atlas Sound, Beirut, Björk, Black Lips, Danny Brown, Death Cab For Cutie, Death Grips, Dirty Beaches, Girls, Grimes, Hype Williams, Japandroids, Justice, Liturgy, Mazzy Star, Melvins, Napalm Death, Neon Indian, OFF!, Real Estate, Refused, SBTRKT, Sharon Van Etten, Spiritualized, The Cure, The Drums, The Rapture, The War On Drugs, The xx, Trash Talk, Washed Out, Wavves, Wilco, Yo La Tengo and about a hundred other bands.
It’s getting to be that time of year where we look back at 2011′s trends and decide which ones we liked and which we didn’t. One musical trend that can’t be ignored is the saxophone – it showed up everywhere. Lisa Simpson would be thrilled.
Here’s the second clip from Within And Without which is certain to be on most of best of lists at the end of the year, and with good reason. A stirring and beautiful video; Iceland sure looks like fun.
Now in its seventh year, the line up for this week / weekend’s Pygmalion Festival is looking pretty spectacular. Taking place in Champaign-Urbana, IL, it’s an indie superstar extravaganza featuring: Explosions In The Sky, Cut Copy, Toro Y Moi, Washed Out, The Dodos, The Hood Internet, Japandroids, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bass Drum Of Death, Gardens & Villa and about a hundred others.
The Hood Internet are back with Trillwave 2, once again refusing to stick to one genre at a time. Warren G and Nate Dogg hang with Tori Y Moi, Lil B gets down with Gold Panda, R. Kelly sings over Baths. Get it.
Finally! Washed Out releases the first video for the highly anticipated sophomore album, Within and Without. That’s a pretty sexy bike ride, though she’s hardly dressed appropriately. Helmets, folks. Wear your helmets.
This week: Washed Out’s much anticipated second release, How To Dress Well makes a dedication, Eleanor Friedberger leaves Fiery Furnaces, Zomby brings beats and Panda Bear, and a freebie from Yung Life.
Stereogum gives us a fantastic, two-volume mixtape, made just for summer. Featuring: The Weeknd, John Maus, YACHT, J Masics, Hooray For Earth, Cold Cave, Washed Out, and lots more.
