USA Soccer has enough on it’s plate right now, without the added pressure of playing Mexico just days after the latest presidential election. Trump’s sentiments towards Mexico have cast a massive shadow on this World Cup qualifier, which is massive in it’s own right without any conjured political implications.
It’s the fifth time Mexico plays USA in Columbus, a place Mexico has struggled in World Cup qualifying. USA has four straight qualifying wins over Mexico at MAPFRE Stadium, all by a 2-0 scoreline.
But while the teams have a storied history, both managers are expected to use their youth talent in Friday’s matchup. Mexico’s roster is full of youth, and there are only two players on Juan Carlos Osorio’s 25-man roster that have more than 10 caps.
USA are going to make full use of German sensation Christian Pulisic, but they’re going with experience between the pipes. Tim Howard was already confirmed as the starting keeper by Jurgen Klinsmann earlier in the week.
