Bell, Brown, Ben, and Bryant?

Martavis Bryant was supposed to be the deep threat to compliment Antonio Brown on the outside.

The Steelers have been as good as anyone drafting wide receivers over the last decade, and Bryant is no exception. With Bryant active, the group of him, Brown, Eli Rogers and Sammie Coates would rank as the best group of pass-catchers in the league.

Bryant was a fourth-round pick from Clemson in the 2014 Draft, and started immediately. He scored six touchdowns in his first four NFL starts, showing great ability as a big-play receiver down the field.

Unfortunately for the Steelers, Bryant has had problems keeping clean over the last two years. He missed the first four games of his sophomore season after multiple substance abuse violations, and another one cost him his entire 2016 season.

As far as where Bryant actually is, he’s away from the NFL in Las Vegas. He’s living there with his girlfriend and children, watching game film and volunteer coaching high school football.

Bryant was electric when his team needed him most last season, having his best game as a pro in a playoff loss to Denver. With Antonio Brown locked up and Bell injured, Bryant caught nine passes for 154 yards in the loss. Less than two months later, it was ruled that he would miss the following season.

With a first-class organization like Pittsburgh, Bryant is lucky to get a third chance. The Steelers were very disappointed in Bryant’s choices over the last year, and added that “..significant changes need to occur in his personal life if he wants to regain his career as a Pittsburgh Steeler.”

According to Bryant’s agent Thomas Santanello, Bryant is on track to return next year. He has not yet been reinstated, but seems back on track and ready to resume his NFL career next season.
