An Easter event has just been announced for Pokemon Go. When does this special “Eggstravaganza” start and end?
According to Niantic’s official announcement today, the Easter event will begin on Thursday, April 13th at 1:00 p.m. PDT. It will then last for exactly one week, concluding on Thursday, April 20th at 1:00 p.m. PDT.
You can use this tool to convert PDT to your local time zone. The event is set to begin about seven hours from the time that this article was posted.
Niantic usually likes to start their special events a few days ahead of the holiday in question and wrap them up several days after the holiday is over. Although this event is simply being referred to as an “Eggstravaganza,” it’s clearly celebrating Easter, which is on Sunday, April 16th. However, Passover is also this week, with the Jewish holiday having begun on April 10th and concluding on April 18th.
During the Eggstravaganza, a greater variety of Pokemon will be found in 2km eggs. This presumably means that it will be easier to obtain rare Pokemon over the next week, with some rare creatures from 5km and 10km eggs being added into the 2km pool. It’s also possible that Niantic means that some Pokemon that can’t be hatched from eggs at all right now will be added into the 2km pool.
However, it should be noted that this only applies to eggs that you pick up after the Easter event begins. After all, what’s in an egg in Pokemon Go is determined the moment you pick the egg up, not the moment you hatch it, and so any eggs that you have in your inventory from earlier will not be affected by the Eggstravaganza changes.
Also during the Easter event, players will receive more candy for every egg they hatch, and there will also be a double XP bonus.
Finally, Lucky Eggs will be available for half the price in the game store for the next week. Combining a Lucky Egg with the double XP bonus means you can earn four times the XP as usual. Outside of the store, Lucky Eggs can be acquired for free by leveling up, though they are only given out at certain levels.
