‘Star Wars Battlefront II’: New Content Will Be Free

Star Wars Battlefront II

One of the criticisms of the first Star Wars Battlefront was that the map packs separated the player base so EA and DICE are looking to remedy that with the sequel. Today’s stream featured John Boyega, best known as Finn in The Force Awakens, and he confirmed the free content is coming along with Finn being included with the first Season of content. Captain Phasma, also from The Force Awakens, will be joining Finn in the first content pack.

We learned Star Wars Battlefront II did away with the Season Pass with the sequel and it looks like they will support the game with free updates instead. We don’t yet know the full extent of the upcoming content but we do know it will be free.

“With Star Wars Battlefront II, we’ve really taken feedback from our players to heart, and you see that in the base game, which has so much more content than the first game – a new authentic single player campaign, epic multiplayer, starfighter battles, and solo or co-op PvE on console – a huge game across all eras of the Star Wars films,” says Matt Webster, Executive Producer on Star Wars Battlefront II. “But just as important is how we support the game after launch. Our live service is built around the philosophy of keeping our fans playing together, with seasons that will add meaningful content and in game events on a regular basis.”

The store page on Origin first suggested the free content:

A reason to play every day. Each season brings fresh, new downloadable content, available to all players***. With exciting new locations, characters and quests, you can take part in a connected universe and be rewarded as an active member of the Star Wars: Battlefront II community.

Star Wars Battlefront II releases on Xbox One, PS4, and Origin on PC on Nov. 14, 2017.

Today’s stream revealed the first live gameplay of Star Wars Battlefront II. We saw heroes such as Darth Maul, Boba Fett, Rey and Han Solo enter the fray. The heroes sport a boosted health pool but are now easier to kill. The heroes are now unlocked using Battle Points instead of having various pickups appear on the maps. This was also our first look at prequel-era content as the gameplay was set on Naboo. Classes have been added into the game for regular troops to add some diversity between the characters, like EA’s Battlefield series.
