For Honor has experienced a rocky beginning with its huge boom of players during launch and its subsequent fall from grace. The core players have remained with the game and now the developers are introducing another element to further build on For Honor’s competitive roots.
Tournaments and competitive play have always been what the game has focused on from the start and now Ubisoft is doubling down at that by introducing ranked tournaments. The new mode is being introduced with a public test to gauge player feedback, since that is what keeps the game going.
The tournament starts off by putting players in a qualifier stage where they must complete 20 placement matches. After these matches, players will be separated into five tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. This is done, on paper, to ensure players will be matched up with players of similar skill level so you aren’t steamrolled by more experienced players.
Players will have to move up in their pool and perform well to move on to the single elimination phase. At that point, you will compete in a bracket that will eventually crown a champion.
The tournament will only be available on PC for now, Ubisoft says this is done because the PC allows for greater flexibility, efficiency and ease when exploring new ways of iterating their game. Ubisoft will be listening to feedback regarding the skill tiers and stability of the tournament in whole. Surveys will be sent to players who participate after the tournament wraps up.
The tournament begins June 29 and will finish up on July 4. Any PC player who has accessed the game through Uplay up until 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on June 22 is eligible to join the Public Test. You can read much more about the new event in-depth on Ubisoft’s blog.
