Daley vs. Shirai On Tap For BAMMA 5

Strikeforce welterweight

Paul Daley

Daley returns to action against Shirai this February

A welterweight tilt between Paul Daley and Yuya Shirai will happen at BAMMA 5 and the welterweight title is on the line.

Fighters Only reported the bout last week, and MMAFighting.com confirmed the match up with Daley’s publicist earlier today.

Daley, whose career UFC career ended abruptly after he struck Josh Koscheck following their three round bout at UFC 113, made the move to Strikeforce recently, debuting with a first round knockout against Scott Smith at “Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu.” The victory was Daley’s third in a row and his first knockout win since his devastating finish over Dustin Hazelett at UFC 108.

His upcoming opponent, Shirai, has had a successful stint competing in DEEP, winning the promotion’s welterweight title at “DEEP: 45 Impact”. Since earning the belt, he has gone on to win two straight, including his successful title defense at “DEEP: 50th Impact” against Shigetoshi Iwase.

The event is set for February 26 at the Manchester Evening News Arena in the United Kingdom. The bout will serve as the main event of the evening.
