Lentz replaces Sass, meets Dunham at “UFC on FOX 2”
An injury to Paul Sass has forced the lightweight out of his “UFC on FOX 2” bout with Evan Dunham, and Nik Lentz has agreed to step in as the replacement.
UFC officials confirmed the news today.
After going unbeaten in his first six fights under the Zuffa banner, though one was a draw, Lentz has failed to find victory in his past two outings, as his “UFC on Versus 4” bout against Charles Oliveira ended in a no contest and his latest fight, a preliminary card contest at UFC 140 against Mark Bocek, ended with a unanimous decision defeat. The loss was only the fourth of his career.
Like his opponent, Dunham began his career in the UFC with a good deal of success. He quickly rose through the division, becoming one of the top prospects in all the sport. But a highly controversial loss to Sean Sherk at UFC 119 set Dunham back, ending his undefeated streak as a professional. He failed to redeem himself in his next outing, as he was brutalized by Melvin Guillard at “UFC: Fight For The Troops 2.”
Fortunately for Dunham, a one-sided victory over former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor Shamar Bailey at September’s “UFC Fight Night” event in New Orleans has the former top prospect back on path.
“UFC on FOX 2” is set for January 28 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The main card will broadcast live on FOX and features a light heavyweight contender bout between Phil Davis and Rashad Evans, as well as a middleweight contender bout between Mark Munoz and Chael Sonnen.
