According to TechCrunch, Amazon will be adding a $99 7-inch tablet to its product lineup and will ship later on this year. The new tablet will be powered by a TI processor and will have a 1280×800 resolution. As of right now, you can buy a regular Kindle Fire for just $159, so a $99 Kindle Fire Tablet doesn’t seem like a bad deal. None of Amazon’s competitors have released a $99 tablet yet, so Amazon would be the first in line. We’ve only seen $99 tablets from generic brands. Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO was quoted saying, “We want to make money when people use our devices, not when they buy our devices.”Amazon also mentioned the company is selling the Kindle Fire HD hardware “at the lowest price points possible.” It will be interesting to see how well the tablet will sell.
Update: According to Business Insider, the $99 Kindle Fire HD isn’t happening. A spokesperson from Amazon said, “It’s not happening–we are already at the lowest price points possible for that hardware.”
