Yahooo announced on Friday it would be getting rid of a few of its services by the end of the month. The company will be shutting down Yahoo Deals, Upcoming and its API, Yahoo SMS Alerts, Yahoo kids, Yahoo Mail and Messenger feature phone (J2ME) apps, and much older versions of Yahoo Mail by June 3. Last month Yahoo announced it would retire seven products by the beginning of this month, it was first announced back in March. That it included the company’s BlackBerry app, Clues, app search, Sports IQ, Message Boards, and its Updates API.
Yahoo said at the time: Ultimately, we’re making these changes in an effort to sharpen our focus. By continuing to hone in on our core products and experiences, we’ll be able to make our existing products the very best they can be.
Here’s what you can expect:
Yahoo didn’t elaborate much on the changes, but the announcement is called “Sharpening our focus- to bring you new Yahoo Products.” The company said it also wants to bring you “experiences that inspire and entertain you every day.”
The following will be shut down on April 30.
Upcoming: Upcoming along with support for the Upcoming API will be shutdown. You can save your uploaded events on the site, and download your information here.

Yahoo SMS Alerts: Yahoo wants users to stay-up-to-date via its mobile app that include Yahoo Weather, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, and horoscope alerts on Yahoo.com. You will still be able to go to alerts.yahoo.com to receive alerts via Yahoo! Messenger or email.
Yahoo Kids: Yahoo is recommending that users under 13 should register for a Yahoo ID through the company’s Family Accounts program, use Yahoo Mail, Messenger, and Movies.
Yahoo Mail and Messenger feature phone (J2ME) apps: Yahoo will support Yahoo Mail and Messenger via mobile web for feature phone users. Anyone else who uses Yahoo Mail apps for Android, IOS, and Windows 8 or Yahoo Messenger apps for Android and IOS.
Starting June 3, Yahoo Mail (older versions & Yahoo Mail Classic) will be shut down. Users will be switched to the new Yahoo Mail. If you use dial-up or old browsers you will be switched to basic (HTML only) of the new version of Yahoo Mail.
Yahoo introduced Yahoo! Mail for iPad and Android tablets and Yahoo! Weather for iPhone this week.
According to Yahoo, the changes will be rolling out soon.
