Last night marked Canada’s biggest music honours. Here’s what you need to know about the 2013 Juno Awards.
1) 42nd Annual
Named in honour of Pierre Juneau, the first President of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and former President of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, last night marked the 42nd annual Juno Awards.
2) Host With the Most

Beloved Canadian crooner and 11-time Juno winner Michael Bublé was this year’s host. It’s the first time he’s held the post, and he seemed to enjoy himself, using his typical Canadian brand of self-deprecating humour to entertain the audience.
3) Special Appearances

During the show’s opening vignettes, Gerard Butler, Dr. Phil, Kelly Ripa and Russell Peters all made special appearances, expressing their [seemingly unfounded] concerns about Bublé’s hosting ability.
4) Central Ceremony
Last night’s awards took place for the first time in Saskatchewan’s capital city, Regina. The 2012 Juno Awards were hosted in Ottawa, Ontario. Winnipeg, Manitoba will host the 2014 Juno Awards.
5) Big Winners
3 Junos?! Canada~ THANK YOU! I will NEVER forget tonight! @thejunoawards #JUNOawards. #KISS

Carly Rae Jepsen was by far the big winner of the night, taking home three Juno awards. The 27-year-old songstress won single of the year for her catchy hit, “Call Me Maybe”, with her album “Kiss” taking home both album of the year and pop album of the year.
“This is truly a dream come true for me, if I could only explain how I feel,” Jepsen said.
The group Metric also took home three awards.
6) Special Honours
A thousand fold thanks to all my fans in #canada!!!!Big time love!!!! #JUNOawards

Last night’s show also honoured Canadian music legend k.d. lang, who was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame .
“I think that me standing here receiving this award says more about Canada than me,” she said. “Only in Canada could a freak like k.d. lang succeed. Only in Canada could Stompin’ Tom Connors and Rita McNeil succeed.
“I’m here to tell you it’s OK to be you. It’s OK to let your freak flag fly and embrace the quirkmeister that is in all of us.”
7) Music Legends
The iconic Leonard Cohen took home the first award of the evening, winning songwriter of the year for his hits “Going Home” and “Show Me The Place”, both co-written with Patrick Leonard, and “Amen.”
Cohen also won artist of the year at Saturday night’s award gala.
8) Performances
Metric, Billy Talent, Carly Rae Jepsen, Hannah Georgas, k.d. lang, Marianas Trench, The Sheepdogs, Serena Ryder and host Michael Bublé all performed at last night’s Juno Awards.
9) Beliebers

— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) March 17, 2013
Pop sensation Justin Bieber took home the 2013 Fan’s Choice Award, although he was not on hand to accept the Juno.
10) Missing Tribute
Notably absent was much of a tribute to the recently deceased country and folk singer Rita MacNeil. The songstress was apparently given an extended tribute during the non-televised portion of the awards on Saturday, with only lang and Bublé giving quick shout outs during the televised portion of the awards.
