Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was asked if quarterback Geno Smith will have a little more juice this week facing his former squad the New York Jets.
Carroll said, “I don’t know if he gets up any more than I do.” The longtime NFL coach added that he was “there for a while, too. They sent me packing. Geno and I, we might ride this one out together.”
Asked about Geno Smith getting up a lil more for a game vs. the Jets, Pete joked: “I don’t know if he gets up any more than I do.” Pete started laughing. “I was there for a while, too. They sent me packing. Geno and I, we might ride this one out together.”
Pete Carroll Has an Opportunity at Sweet Jets Revenge
Back in 1994, Carroll got his first opportunity as a head coach in the NFL with the Jets.
Prior to being elevated, he had served as the team’s defensive coordinator since 1990. Gang Green got off to a 6-5 start under Carroll but everything collapsed like a used lawn chair after the infamous Dan Marino fake spike game in Week 13.

Gang Green would go on to lose all of their remaining games in that campaign falling to 6-10. Carroll was fired after just one season.
Eventually, it all worked out for Carroll who rose to fame for his run as the head coach at USC. Most recently he has served as the Seahawks’ head coach since 2010 which was highlighted by a Super Bowl victory in 2014 against the Denver Broncos.
On Sunday the Seahawks will welcome the Jets in Week 17 in a do-or-die game for both team’s playoff hopes.
Only One Playoff Path Exists for the Jets
To end Week 16 the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Indianapolis Colts 20-3. With that victory, the Chargers have now officially clinched a playoff spot in the AFC wildcard.
That means there are technically only two spots available on that side of the bracket.
Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans will battle it out in Week 18 with the winner claiming the AFC South and the home playoff game that comes with it. The loser of that game will likely be on the outside looking in.
That leaves one last wildcard spot up for grabs.
With the Chargers being removed from the picture, the path is clear for the Jets. The only way into the dance is winning their final two games and hoping the New England Patriots lose one of their final two.
Gang Green will travel to play the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17 and then they’ll travel back to the east coast for a road game against the Miami Dolphins.
While the Patriots will host the Dolphins this week before traveling to Buffalo to play the Bills in the regular season finale.
It is likely that New England will be playing against Miami backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on Sunday. On Monday, December 26 it was revealed that Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has once again been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol, per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
With that news coming in his status is very much in doubt for this week’s game and potentially beyond.
The most difficult part for the Jets will be handling their own business. Gang Green is in a massive slump. They have lost six of their last eight including four in a row.
If they don’t handle their own business none of the other stuff will matter. Head coach Robert Saleh met with the team on Monday for their team meetings and shared the message with everyone that they have to take this season one game at a time.
